Rugeley Snooker Club (formerly "Rugeley Billiards Club") is a very long established, member-run club, set in Heron Court Hall, a Gothic style mansion built in 1851. Rugeley Snooker Club is perfect for those that wish to enjoy a quiet, sociable game of snooker with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. For the more competitive players, we are always looking to recruit team members - we host teams competing in local leagues with a concessionary membership rate for team players. Competitive table time prices:

We have a reasonably priced, well stocked, licenced bar, so you can relax with a pint or two while you are playing. In addition to the Snooker Club, we have a small function room suitable for community classes, meetings etc. which can be hired at competitive rates. Week 3 report

This week the team took the long journey to Kingswinford to play the top team in the league at that stage, Kingswinford Club.

Without regular Matt we had a new face playing in Shane. The first few shots showed what a good cue man he is with solid safety and a couple of lovely pots. Then something rather unusual happened. His opponent Joe Hawks made as fluent a 54 break as I've ever seen. Without a missed positional shot the break could have been higher. Such an excellent break is rare in this league. It felt like he usually plays in a much higher league but our captain was assured this was not the case. Shane showed his composure and picked up points at the end of the frame.

On the other table Luke produced a solid performance to beat his opponent. He was disappointed that the score margin was not higher.

Mike played his opponent and for 75% of the game he dominated, despite his opponents obvious ability. He was the first to admit the last few shots were poor with a missed pot to win and poor safety shot on the brown. The game was left to the black and his opponent made no mistake. 49-48 loss. I suggest that this game is not mentioned if you chat to him at the bar🍻

Ian returned to winning ways as I predicted last week. His opponent was safety minded with a ‘steady’ pace which might have put off a less experienced player. A comfortable 58-33 win for Ian

Jason again was left to take the team over the line. He played fluently against a good opponent. The captain dominated the scoring and as usual his safety and tactical game was rock solid. A comfortable win for Jason.
3-2 win for RSC

So RSC have won three out of three in this challenging league. In the early stages of a season the league positions are fairly irrelevant but I've attached the table regardless. It is pleasing to see that this fine team have adapted to the standard of this higher league so quickly.

This week
This coming week sees two games, both at home.
On Monday the team take on Forty Four Club B in round 1 of the Challenge Cup.
In a slight change to the schedule the league match with Darlaston Cons is now on Thursday.
The big match room will not be available from about 18:30 each of these evenings but the other two tables will still be available. There will be bar service on both evenings but please be patient as Mike will be playing, occasionally refereeing and also managing the bar.

Week 2 report

This week the team played their first home game against Dudley Ex Service.

The match tables had been expertly prepared by Mike, Jason and Luke, with all balls carefully polished.

Matt and Ian got the leg underway.
Ian played an uncharacteristic loose game, with a few lapses in potting and safety. I can honestly say he also had a terrible run of the balls with his opponent getting away with misses so many times it became amusing. These things happen and like the fine player he is, Ian will bounce back.
Matt played a strong opponent. The game had long bouts of quality safety play and some excellent potting. Unfortunately it was decided by just a few missed balls and on this occasion Matt came out on the wrong side of the result.

0-2 down

Mike and Luke were up next with Mike determined to put right his defeat the previous week.
He played an experienced player whose style was more safety than attack. This suited the RSC man who potted effectively and generally kept the game tight with typical tough match snooker. A comfortable 67-15 win.
Luke on the other table was imperious as he totally dominated all aspects of the game. Total control and a win of 67-2.

As per the previous week Jason took on the final game decider.
The game was a good one to watch with Jason being effective in the balls and playing some of his typical cunning safety shots. He took control of the match and there really was only going to be one winner 67-28

Result 3-2 winners

RST are settling into the new season and showing what the word ‘team’ means with all players supporting one another. It is great that again they didn't panic and came back from two down again.

They have a busy few weeks ahead with them taking on;
Kingswinford away on the 17th
Forty Four club C at home on the 21st in the challenge cup
Then another home league game on the 23rd against Darlaston Cons

Jason is taking on a tough opponent in the Secretary Cup on the 14th.

Week 1 match report

The new season started during the first week of September with the team now promoted to division 4.
Captain Jason has modest ambitions for the new season. He told me that he wants the team to enjoy themselves and secure their place in this tougher league.

The first game was away at the Goodyear Pavilion in Wolverhampton.
Mike and Ian immediately saw the difference in quality of players as both lost to some high class play. Mike was unfortunate in being set in an almost impossible snooker trap where the miss rule really counted against him. Ian performed well but only one tactical error left his opponent the chance to steal the frame. This left our men 0-2 down.

Matt and Luke both took centre stage with each producing tough match snooker. Luke taught a tense first half of his frame before setting his opponent a vile snooker. After which he really took control and won the frame 88-51.

Matt was in imperious form demonstrating his silky smooth cue action and good control in the balls. He won his frame 61-14.

Finally Jason took on his opponent in his own typical fashion with tough safety play and impressive long potting. He produced a crushing 60-14 win

It says something about this team that from behind they do not panic and never attribute blame.

🏆Opportunity to club members🏆

The team are looking for a few players that can occasionally fill in as reserves during home (usually Wednesday) and away matches (usually Thursday) throughout the season. Sometimes we know weeks in advance that we are short a player but on other occasions it might be relatively last minute due to illness. An indication of standard is the ability to make a 20 break.
If you are interested then please make yourself known to us through the club email or speak to Mike at the bar on a Tuesday or when you see him in the club. Some members of the team generally practice on a Tuesday evening in the club if you want to drop in.
