P&D - Ladies Masters - Division 1: Ryde Lawn 1 vs Swanmore 1 (16/6)

What a tough day at the office for RL ladies! We fought like heroes throughout a long and competitive match. After the first round, the score stood at 1 rubber each, with both matches being decided by championship tie-breaks, leaving everything to play for in the second round. Kahren and Carrie took some time to regroup and came back strongly, battling for every point with determination to secure a straight-sets victory. Meanwhile, Jackie and Emma got off to a flying start, taking the first set comfortably. The second set proved much tougher, but they stayed focused and proved just too strong for their opponents, sealing another impressive win. 3 points secured for the team!!

Well played to Swanmore, a great afternoon of tennis and a fantastic team effort from the RL ladies ! 🎾💙

Ryde Lawn hosted a mixed‑doubles padel event on Sunday, with a full turnout of 16 players forming eight pairs for a fun social knockout tournament, complete with a consolation plate, all played in glorious sunshine.

Ohla Rozvodoska was quick to celebrate her third‑place finish with Luke Scrimshaw, who marked the moment by dousing the opposition with Prosecco back on the patio.

Meanwhile, Simon Jenkin continued the long‑standing trend of organisers selecting the best partners for themselves, teaming up with Suree Russell. Her excellent defensive skills proved decisive as they edged out Nick Shutler and the promising Sylvia 5–3 in a tight main‑draw final.

In the consolation event, Kevin and Mick claimed victory over Matt and Emma in another entertaining match.

Players then retired to the patio to continue the social occasion, rounding off a thoroughly enjoyable day for all involved.

P&D- Mixed Master’s- Division 2- RL3 (9/6):

After several postponements for poor weather, our summer season finally got underway today with a tough derby match against our own club’s second team. Interestingly enough, our opponents decided to rest two of their regular players in order to strengthen their team by bringing in superior players and this paid off for them as we struggled to cope with their added power. However, we put up a good fight and came away having given of our best in all four rubbers.

In the mixed rubbers, Emma and Simon were overpowered by Kahren and Dave B but managed to scramble a handful of games. Clare snd Tony had more success in their encounter against Carrie and Karl losing 6-3, 7-5. In the men’s rubber, we again found it difficult to cope with Dave’s fast forehand and speed around the court, coupled with Karl’s experience and guile. In the ladies rubber, Emma and Clare refused to be phased by Carrie and Kahren and pushed them all the way to a tie-break in the opening set but ultimately, their vastly more experienced opponents eventually wore them down. We were well beaten but not unbowed and can hold our heads up high in defeat.
Thanks to all the team for showing such grit and determination and we look forward to our next match with our usual positivity. Simon

🎾 P&D Men’s Masters - Division 2 🎾:

Ryde Lawn Men’s Masters Team welcomed Swanmore 2’s on 26th May for a hard-fought fixture in scorching conditions, with temperatures topping 30°C. ☀️🔥

Representing Ryde were Geoff, Dan, Julian and Liam, who gave an excellent account of themselves in two extremely long and closely contested matches. The match result went right down to the final tie-break, with Julian and Liam agonisingly close to securing a draw but unfortunately Swanmore took the win.

A fantastic match played in great spirit against a sporting opposition. Well done to everyone involved! 👏🎾
