Manager Aurie De Carteret's thoughts:

"Before the game the challenge to the players was to make a statement to the league that we will be a force in the top division and that's exactly what we did in this game. It was a very good all round performance, we were structured and organised when we didn't have the ball and we looked so dangerous in transition.

Credit has to go to the players for their application of the system we implemented for this game. We knew there would be periods where we wouldn't have the ball, so we had to make sure our shape was right and we did that really well. When we won the ball back we constantly looked to get forward and we took our chances well, and the result shows that.

This is only the first game of a league season that has a lot of top quality teams in, so we have to keep pushing the give everyone more performances like this one"

This Sunday we have our first game of the season, this time in the Burnley and District Sunday League Premier Division ⚽🎉💪🏻

We'll be taking on the mighty Inn on the Wharf on home turf this Sunday so make sure you get down and support the lads in what promises to be a great first game back!

The kiosk will be open as usual so come and grab a butty and a drink and watch some entertaining footy ⚽

We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came and supported the football club on Sunday, everyone who came to watch the game, who bought duck race tickets, who came to watch the ducks, all our team for helping run the duck race and to all our sponsors for the wonderful prizes, we appreciate you all! It was an absolutely fantastic day and the water levels were finally on our side 🦆🐤⚽️

It's August bank holiday weekend coming up and that can only mean the ducks are coming!

Join us on Sunday, at Nutter Barn for an 11am kick-off, as Sabden FC take on Sabden Vets - bigger than the world cup final!

Then we head to Bull Bridge for 2:30pm to see all our ducks head down Sabden Brook - The Grand National of duck races!

Then it's off to enjoy a few beers either soaking up the sun or sheltering from the rain!

Sabden FC 5 - 3 Vintage Claret FC (Formerly The Forest FC)

Manager Aurie De Carteret’s thoughts:

“This week has shown me that we are getting stronger over pre season. The game today was against a very good side who have a specific way of playing and are very physical, but we did well to compete physically and show our quality in the moments that mattered. We started very strong and then had a chaotic two minutes where they got two goals.

Half time I didn’t really need to criticise the lads because I thought we were in a good position for the rest of the game. We knew they would drop off towards the end of the game and after we made it 4-3 we defended well.

Praise has to go to Oli Arrowsmith, whose distribution today was incredible, getting two assists; Ste Caton for his battling in midfield and Phe Targett who got himself three goals. I think Phelix is the player we were missing last season and I do believe we would have finished higher up the league if we had him, so it’s brilliant to know we have assembled a great squad for this season”

Sabden FC 8 - 1 AFC Burnley

Manager Aurie De Carteret’s thoughts:

“This was the kind of game that us as a management team had been hoping for. The attitude of the team today was really pleasing and I was very impressed with the fact we didn’t slow down in the game. The lads wanted to keep pushing tonight, whereas in past situations like this we would drop off.

Despite the result I think AFC Burnley will do well in their league this season. The first thirty minutes was tricky for us and we didn’t break them down too well, but we went up a gear and really took control of the game, especially in the second half.

It was great to see club legend Tom Diggins playing for the opposition tonight and I hope he and his side have a great season. We’ve now got to turn our attention to a very tough game on Sunday against Sean Price’s Vintage Clarets, who will definitely be a good test for us as we continue preparing for the Premier Division”
