Training and introduction to field archery courses: Before you can join a club and go out onto a course you will need to be trained and signed off by our Field Archery Coach. You will be trained in all aspects of field archery including health and safety, setting up your bow, shooting techniques and different bowstyles. Its a hands on course and after the initial safety briefing you will be shooting on the training range. The introduction to archery course of five hourly lessons cost £50. The lessons can be split over various weekends or completed in a one day block course. Once you have completed the full course and have been signed off by the coach you can join the club and the NFAS (National Field Archery Society) and shoot the 3d course whenever you like. One off hourly sessions can be booked for £10.00. Training is suitable for all ages, as the training is at our woods we do recommend wearing suitable clothing and footwear as it does tend to be a bit muddy.Training courses can also be purchased as gift vouchers by contacting the club.

The Rules of Field Archery: To keep it simple the targets are laid out in a course that uses the entire woodland so there is quite a bit of walking involved. There are usually either 36 or 40 targets. Each target will have a series coloured pegs to shoot from. You will have a maximum of three shots at each target. You take the first shot from the Red peg if you hit the target you score that arrow (depending on where you hit you can score 24, 20 or 16 points). if you miss the 1st shot you move onto the White peg and shoot again if you hit the target you score that arrow (depending on where you hit you can score 14 or 10 points). If you miss your 2nd shot you move onto the Blue peg and shoot again, if you hit the target you score that arrow (depending on where you hit you can score 8 or 4 points) if you miss the target from the blue peg you score zero and move onto the next target. Children shoot from a Yellow or Orange peg. See pic below which shows typical peg layout.
