Working on a Lowland Leader training course yesterday round Rivington.

Monday 23rd December: A warm front arriving from the west brings rain preceded by snow or freezing rain on higher slopes - later much milder, well above freezing to all tops. A brief lull, but winds strengthening during the day in Scotland. Windy from dawn Pennines & Wales then a brief lull develops here during day.

Sunday 24th November: Windy for all areas, gales or severe gales on higher terrain. Following a period of thaw to highest tops overnight, Scottish tops back near freezing point; beware ice. Spells of rain, or snow higher Munros in western Scotland, drier in east. Heavy overnight rain easing to showers for England & Wales; very wet ground, some flooding.

Friday 29th March: Centres of low pressure will circulate across Britain, bringing areas of rain (snow higher areas, particularly Scotland) which will gradually transition to heavy showers, and extensive fog on the mountains. It will remain cold. However, in Scotland, winds will be light.

Thursday 28th March: Within a deep area of low pressure, bands of precipitation will move north across Britain, snow falling on higher terrain. Frequently dry Scottish Highlands. Upland winds will vary, temporary lulls in some areas between extensive gales or near gales.

Monday - Another day of cloud and moisture laden skies, with west to southwesterly winds bringing in extensive hill fog with rain and drizzle on and off. The rainfall frequent for western mountains, and very wet underfoot for western Scotland following the incessant rains. Turning clearer and colder in northwest Scotland later.

Sunday - A rippling front will bring incessant, heavy rain to W and NW Scotland, with rain spilling over to eastern ranges. Through the day, this front will edge south, with heavy rain easing in the northwest, but arriving as far south as the Lakes. Further south, drizzly in Wales. Powerful winds, storm force over some tops.

Friday - Scotland: Severe upland westerly gales, with extensive low cloud and in the west drizzly rain; more or less incessant W/NW Highlands. Patches reaching eastern areas too. England and Wales: Gales in N England. Extensive low cloud and drizzle spreading southeast into Peak District and Wales.

Monday - Scotland: Early rain and low cloud clearing south. Showers following with cloud still capping many northern and western hills. Stronger winds NW and W Highlands later. England and Wales: Low cloud and rain along a slow-moving front, edging south. Drier and clearer S Wales.
