✍🏻 Grab a few friends or get together with family and coming along for a fun quiz run by an experienced quiz master, using tablets.

The Weekend Report!

CHAMPIONS!

The final weekend of the season saw the 1s secure a well deserved Championship title and promotion to Division 2 of the Cheshire County League.

Being put into bat needing 200 runs to secure enough bonus points to guarantee promotion, understandable nerves were on display as we battled hard to counter a motivated Hale Barns team.

A typically fluent knock from Charlie Eaton kept the target within range but it came down to Mark Weighill and Kris Green to manufacture 20 runs off the last two overs to get us over the line thanks to a scramble bye off the last ball of the innings.

With promotion secure, our bowlers took enough wickets for us to take us to the title, as rain caused an early finish and a win under DLS rules.

The 1s have proved the best team in the competition and the title is theirs on merit. Playing the game in the right spirit, and with everyone who has been selected for the 1s over the season contributing, this was very much a reward based on team effort. Bravo.

The 2nd Team rounded off their season with a fine win at Heaton Mersey. Batting first on a tricky surface, we were indebted to Mike Roberts (64) and Sam Thozer (42) who posted a 97 run 2nd wicket partnership allowing us to get to a total of 183-5 off our 50 overs.

In reply the home team struggled to cope with our bowling, with Ryan Carey again showing his mastery of spin taking 4-24. As with the 1s, rain brought an early end to proceedings giving us a win under DLS rules by 44 runs.

The games rounded off a fine season for the club with success across all our senior sides. We have done this the right way, and everyone should be proud of what we have achieved and how we have achieved it.

SUCCESS!!!

A day to remember for Ashton with the 1XI securing the win to get promoted as champions against visitors Hale Barns in a rain affected game at the Beets. On a tense afternoon and with rain forecast the permutation was simple. Win and Ashton would be promoted as champions against in form Hale Barns who by have been on Ashton’s tail all season along with Heaton Mersey. Lose and Ashton would still be promoted with 3 bonus points required for promotion or 5 to go up as champions.

Ashton got off to a decent start following the early loss of both openers before 2 quick wickets saw Ashton slip to 45/3. Runs were hard to come by amidst some accurate bowling from the visitors with Australia bound Charlie Eaton top scoring with 33 and Sam Kingsman Ali contributing a vital 30. Wickets fell at fairly regular intervals and at 160/7 off 45 overs when Mark Weighill and Kris Green came to the crease, 200 and the 3rd bonus looked a remote possibiiity. Cometh the hour cometh the men, with Kris Green cutting loose with a blistering 23 off 13 balls including 4 boundaries and Mark Weighill digging in for a resolute 14 off 20 including the shot of the day. Going into the final over Ashton remained 8 short with the 200 secured off the last ball of the innings with a scrambled single from a bye amidst a missed run out sparking euphoric scenes of celebration both on the pitch and amongst spectators in attendance.

With promotion assured the pressure was off heading into the Hale Barns innings. Kris Green removed danger man Joe Cooper and with 3 quick wickets from skipper James Marshall before a fight back led by Sam Smith, Hale Barns were on 88/4 when the heavens finally opened with Hale Barns still 113 from victory and Ashton requiring a 5th wicket to be assured of victory and the title. And that brought down the curtain on the season at the Beets, with news filtering through that Heaton Mersey had taken care of business vs Middlewich with Ashton securing the win and the title via the Duckworth Lewis method with Hale Barns who had played the game in great spirit denied promotion due to Heaton Mersey’s victory.

For Ashton it was just reward for an outstanding season recording 16 wins from 22 games and just 1 cancellation. Expertly led by captain James Marshall the team have been remarkably consistent and have played at a high level all season, playing with great integrity and embodying the values of the club. The close of play saw the title shield delivered to the club to get the party started until the early hours of this morning. We now bring down the curtain on a highly successful season and one we look back on with great pride as we look forward to next season and the challenges of division 2.

🏆 Friday - Friday evening is our Junior Awards Night! Anyone is welcome to come down for a drink and meal when the club is open. Tasty food from Thyme & Season Cateringwill be served from 6pm.

🏏 Saturday - Open all day from 12pm - this Saturday sees our first XI battling for promotion - please come down and support them if you can. All televised premier league action will be available to watch too.

⚽️ Sunday is the MANCHESTER DERBY! Whether red or blue, come and watch with us for big screen viewing. Don’t forget your loyalty card for another stamp!

🏏Onto the cricket ….

The final weekend of the season is upon us with all on the line for the 1s hopes of promotion and the title.

The maths here are simple. We need a minimum of 3 points from Saturday for promotion, and a minimum of 5 points to take the title. But we are up against Hale Barns who lie 3rd and will be hoping to deny us the spoils which our great season deserves.

A win would of course take us home or a mixture of bonus points for batting and bowling which get us to the above targets. If we were rained off then the 6 points for a cancelled game would also get us there.

Whatever happens we will celebrate a fantastic season for the lads. Fingers crossed it will be champagne rather than sour grapes.....

The 2s make the short journey to Heaton Mersey for their last game of the season. Both side lie mid-table and a win for us would leapfrog us above the hosts in the final standings. This could be important if the League adopts the reorganization of the structure for next season, as the finishing positions in this year's league may determine which league the 2s play in next year.

The 2s have perhaps performed below their best in some games this season and a statement performance from the guys would be a great way to round off the season.

DARTS UPDATE!

AOMCC Darts Team Climb to 7th with Crucial Away Victory

AOMCC Darts Team climbed the league table to 7th place out of 10, giving their hopes of Division 1 survival a major boost with an impressive 5-2 away victory at a busy Victoria Withington pub.

Adorned in full lilac robes, captain Will “The Radical” Radcliffe set the tone for the evening with a convincing 3-0 victory over League Secretary Tony Fogarty, who was struggling with a hand injury.

Victoria’s best player, the evergreen Terry Jepson, levelled the match at 1-1 before victories for Chris “Chappy” Chapman, including a maximum 180, Dave “Killer” Kelsall and Kian “The Pearl” Pearce put AOMCC firmly in control at 4-1.

Lewis Holley pulled one back for Victoria, but there was to be no comeback as James “The Compton Comet” Compton romped to victory in the final game to seal an emphatic 5-2 win for AOMCC. Dave Kelsall was king of all the stats with a 13 dart (least darts) leg, an 89 highest finish and a 69.4 average.

With just two games remaining and with several of the teams around AOM at the foot of the table still to face each other, AOMCC are now in a strong position and can look forward to the final two fixtures with genuine hope of securing a good finish.
