What's on this weekend - 10/11 Oct 26

This weekend we have all twelve teams in league action with five at Shew Bridge and one at Tidworth.

Games at Skew Bridge are as follows:

10.00 Women’s 6s vs Poole 2
11.30 Women’s 1s vs South Berkshire 1
13.00 Women’s 2s vs Southampton 2
14.30 Women’s 3s vs Southampton 4
16.00 Men’s 4s vs Chichester 5

WOMEN’S 1s
The Women’s 1s host South Berkshire looking for a strong performance like last weekend, but this time with a result to go with it. South Berkshire are yet to win this season, but every game has been closely fought, so Salisbury will need to be fully focused on Saturday.

MEN’S 1s
The Men’s 1s travel to Haslemere with three points firmly at the top of their wish list. Haslemere have also had a stuttering start to their first season in Division 1 South, but they will take confidence from last weekend’s draw. Salisbury will be looking to put in a strong performance and come home with the points.

MEN’S 2s
It’s Tidworth for the Men’s 2s at midday as they take on Haslemere. In their last home game, Salisbury showed what they can do with an impressive 8-0 victory. Last season the two sides drew home and away, with Jasper Robinson and Dai Hannaford getting on the scoresheet in the home fixture. Another competitive game can be expected.

MEN’S 3s
Like the 1s and 2s, the Men’s 3s also face Haslemere, this time away at 2pm. Both teams sit in mid-table with one win each this season. Haslemere will be full of confidence following an impressive 11-0 win last week, so the 3s will need to be ready from the first whistle.

STRIDERS
The Striders secured a late win against Andover last week and will be hoping for a slightly easier afternoon when they travel to Chichester. Chichester sit on the same number of points and also won last weekend, so another competitive fixture is expected.

MEN’S 4s
The Men’s 4s will be looking to build on last week’s excellent 2-0 win against Aldershot & Farnham when they welcome Chichester to Skew Bridge for a 4pm push-back. Chichester have won one, drawn one and lost one so far, suggesting this could be another tight contest.

STROLLERS
The Strollers are on the road again as they travel to face the Camberley & Farnborough Owls. With some good performances already under their belts this season, they will be looking to build on that progress this weekend. Both teams have four points from their opening three games, so both will be looking to take something from the game.

WOMEN’S 2s
The prime-time fixture at Skew Bridge sees the Women’s 2s take on Southampton. Salisbury started their campaign with a win, but that has been followed by three defeats. Southampton have also recorded just one win so far, and Salisbury will be determined to get back to winning ways in front of the home crowd.

WOMEN’S 3s
The Women’s 3s have been hugely impressive so far and remain unbeaten, sitting second on goal difference alongside league leaders Trojans. They host Southampton at 2:30pm, with the visitors having picked up just one point this season. Salisbury will be hopeful of another positive result, but as always, they will need to be on their toes.

WOMEN’S 4s
Forest 1 is home to both the Women’s 3s and 4s this weekend, with the Women’s 4s taking on Eastleigh. Salisbury will be looking to continue their excellent form, having only dropped points against the Women’s 3s so far this season. They will be keen to keep their push towards the top of the league going.

WOMEN’S 5s
The Women’s 5s will be looking to continue their fine form after winning all three of their opening games. There is an early-season big game this weekend as they travel to Trojans for a 10am push-back. Trojans are never an easy opponent and will expect to be in the mix this season. Last season, Salisbury came away from Eastleigh with a 4-2 victory, with Tiann Morgner scoring a hat-trick and Rosa Herring adding the other. Another tough test awaits on Saturday.

WOMEN’S 6s
The Women’s 6s face a challenging early fixture at Skew Bridge against Poole. Like the Women’s 5s, Poole remain unbeaten after three games, making this an important game for Salisbury. A positive result would not only benefit the 6s but could also help the 5s in the wider league picture.

JUNIORS
Sunday sees the juniors take over Skew Bridge as we host Romsey and Trojans for an U8s and U10s festival.

The U8s will get things underway at 9:15am, with their games running until 10:25am. The U10s then take over, with their games finishing shortly after midday.

Drinks and snacks will be available from the Clubhouse, so come along and support the next generation of Salisbury hockey players.

🏑 SALISBURY HOCKEY CLUB WEEKEND ROUND-UP

What a weekend of hockey! From historical league moves and last-minute winners to debut goals and epic comebacks, here is how our Salisbury teams got on:

🔴 WOMEN’S SECTION

• Women’s 1s: Put up a strong fight away to Oxford 2s. An early short corner from Alice and a relentless strike off the crossbar from Becky kept the pressure on, but Oxford clinched a 3-1 win despite brilliant work from Jilly in goal.

• Women’s 2s: Battled valiantly in a tough 1-2 away loss at Basingstoke. Charlotte Moore found the net with a low sweep off a short corner to equalize, before Basingstoke pinched a late winner. (PoTM: Millie Edwards & Charlotte Moore).

• Women’s 3s: A brilliant 4-0 away victory over Eastleigh 1s! Debutant Megan Wilcox bagged two goals, alongside a thunderous strike from Gabriella Placedi and a neat finish from Tanith Jones. (PoTM: Lyndz Smith).

• Women’s 4s: Came from behind to secure a fantastic 4-1 win against Bournemouth 4s! Sofie H leveled with a top-corner rocket, before Minnie and two second-half strikes sealed the points. (PoTM: Sofie Harris).

• Women's 5s: Continued their winning start to the season with a commanding 4-0 win against Swanage & Wareham 3s. Lorna Warren opened the scoring, followed by second-half strikes from Debs Payne (complete with a goal-scoring jig!) and a double from goal-machine Jo Bonner. Sofia Whyte earned a solid clean sheet in goal. (PoTM: Sophie Shord).

• Women’s 6s: Showed massive spirit against Swanage 2s. After a tough first half, the team reset into their core shape, conceding only twice in a resolute second-half performance. (PoTM: Tee Ellis).

🔴MEN’S SECTION

• Men’s 1s: Took an early lead against Romsey through Oscar Barnes after a great setup by Milo Storer. Nick Llewelyn flicked home a short corner in the second half to tie it up, but a quick burst from Romsey handed the visitors a 6-2 win.

• Men’s 2s: Traveled to Wi******er 3s. Despite going down early, the team fought to the final whistle and were rewarded with late goals from Jamie Harris and a great solo effort from Bailey Hannaford (Final: 2-6). (PoTM: Harry Bettinson).

• Men’s 3s: Ground out a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wi******er! Andy "Renners" Renshaw flicked home an equalizer before Mike Gallagher pounced in the D to tap in the winner. (PoTM: Stanley Howland on his senior debut).

• Men’s 4s: HISTORY MADE! 🚨 A magnificent 2-0 victory away to Aldershot & Farnham Sharks means the 4s have vacated the bottom of the table for the first time in two years! Dave scored both goals, and goalie Matt kept our first clean sheet of the season. (PoTM: Fredderick Stanley George Fowle the 3rd on debut).

🔴 VETS
• Strollers: A great day at the office with a 4-1 win over Epsom! An electrifying opening 11 minutes saw goals from Will, Bede, and Saboor, before Les added a fourth from a penalty corner. (MoM: Paul).

• Striders: Secured a gritty 1-0 victory against Portsmouth 3s! Rock-solid sweeping from Colin Perkins kept them at bay before Tim Lawrence poked home the winning goal in the final two minutes. (MoM: Tim Lawrence).

🏑 JUNIOR SECTION

• U14 Boys: Put in a great shift during a hard-fought 2-4 training match against a mixed Interclub side. Early goals from Humphrey French and Ben Frost gave the U14s a strong start before the Interclub team fought back. A fantastic workout for all on a warm afternoon!

• U14 Girls: Competed brilliantly against Andover despite a narrow 4-1 loss. Annabel Hand netted a great goal for Salisbury, with a special shoutout to U12 player Bobbie Bamford for stepping up into goal and putting in a stellar performance!
