❤️🦁⚽️ Match Report 3 - Saltash United Lionesses 17-0 Manstow Youth Royal ❤️🦁⚽️
We faced Manstow Youth Royal today for our third game of the season, and their first game of the season. They started well, pressing our defence and holding back our attack. Ruby, Elsie, Lola-Mai and Madie held off their attack brilliantly, getting in well-timed tackles and passing the ball well back up the pitch.
Our attack had multiple attempts at goal, with Eleanor leading attacks up the wing, but the Manstow defence and goalkeeper kept the score level. However, near the 10-minute mark, we finally broke the deadlock with a brilliant goal from Tilly. ⚽️
And from there, the goals continued to come!
Belle had an amazing shot that travelled through multiple players before finding the corner of the net. She also scored another towards the end of the game after a great assist from Amelia. Arwen not only assisted four goals but scored two of her own. She spent the entire game running down every ball and making fantastic crosses into the box.
Tilly ended the game with 4 goals on the scoresheet after a tireless performance from her in both attack and defence today!
Ella was once again a constant danger in open play, scoring two great goals as well as scoring directly from a corner. She also stood in as goalkeeper for a short time, communicating from the back, making herself available to her defenders.
After half-time, Mia scored her first goal for the Lionesses, which was a brilliant moment for her and one that the whole team celebrated. 🥰🦁
Amelia, our CB and stand-in goalkeeper for the majority of the game, also took her chance when playing in attacking midfield, scoring before having to return to goal following an injury, also saving an outstanding strike from Manstow. Talk about versatility! 💪
Madie moved up from RB to the wing and got herself on the scoresheet with a great shot after an assist from Belle. Poppy completed a hat-trick of her own with yet more thunderous strikes from her left foot! 💥⚽️
17 goals, but more importantly, another fantastic team performance. Every player contributed today, whether that was with goals, assists, tackles, saves, runs, passes or simply working hard for their teammates.
The girls showed great determination, teamwork and a brilliant attitude from the first whistle to the last. We couldn’t be prouder of them. ❤️🦁
🦁 Coaches’ Lioness of the Match - Arwen 🦁
A thoroughly deserved award for Arwen today. Her work rate was outstanding from start to finish. She chased down every ball, constantly looked to create opportunities for her teammates and delivered some fantastic crosses into the box. Four assists and two goals tell only part of the story — she was a constant threat and worked tirelessly for the team. An excellent performance! 👏❤️
⭐ Opposition Player of the Match - Ella ⭐
Another fantastic performance from Ella. She was a constant danger in attack, using her pace and movement to create opportunities and putting the Manstow defence under pressure throughout the game. Two goals from open play and a brilliant goal directly from a corner capped off a superb performance. ⚽️👏
