“Empowered women empower women.”
Today, and I had the absolute privilege of running a female-only squad session for the Karate England girls.
This idea came about after being asked whether we could create a space where girls could train with other girls- something that’s not always possible in most clubs where there are usually only a handful of girls; often of different ages or abilities.
To see 42 girls turn up on a Sunday morning, ready to train, learn, and push each other, was genuinely moving. Watching them laugh, connect, form new friendships and strengthen old ones filled me with so much pride and excitement for the future of our sport. It’s not about being treated differently, but about visibility and recognition and for me that’s why today felt so powerful.
I can’t wait to hold more of these sessions, to watch these relationships and skills continue to flourish. There’s something truly special about fighting alongside someone you share a real bond with. Once you’ve experienced that, team competition takes on a whole new meaning.
I have never been prouder to be part of Karate England 🫶🦁
