The new tennis season kicked off last week for the nine Hackness and Scarborough teams in the Driffield and District Tennis League. The Mixed A and B teams had excellent wins to start their campaigns both in division 3. The A team were at home to Pocklington D and had a superb 9 - 0 win. This was a great start for the team who should be looking for promotion to the next level.
The Mixed B team had to travel to Driffield LTC to play their B team. They also had a super 8 - 1 win.
The new Mixed C team starting in division 5 were also at home but on the hard courts and were caught up in a battle with local rivals Scalby which they lost by the narrowest of margins 4 - 5.
In the Ladies Section the A team in division 2 were at home to Driffield Recreation A and they took the honours winning 7 - 2 for a fantastic start to their season.
The newly promoted Ladies B team were at Sledmere to play their B team in division 3. They lost on a tie break in a very close contest by a score of 4 - 5.
In the Men’s section the four Men’s teams had a smashing start to season with three wins out of four. Most notably the A team beat the reigning division one champions, Brandesburton by 5 rubbers to 4, in a thrilling contest.
The B team were away to Market Weighton B in division 3 and in a match with four tie breaks were unlucky to lose three of them and the match overall 3 - 6 .
The C team were at home in division 4 for their match against Rudston. They took the tie fairly comfortably 6 - 3 with all three pairs taking two rubbers.
The Men’s D team, travelling with three juniors, were also at Market Weighton to play their D team. They returned with another fantastic win under their belts by a score of 7 - 2.

The traditional official grass court season opening Tournament today, followed by a delicious sharing tea. Glorious surroundings for our Fun Canadian Doubles Tournament, great to be playing on the grass with an excellent turnout of 24 players, ranging from 12 to 75 years of age.
