Ganton Cricket Club

Ganton lost the toss and were sent in to bat on a fresh hard wicket which, combined with the new ball, offered plenty of variable bounce and made batting difficult from the off. Jack fell early after one rattled off the pad and onto the stumps, before Robbie was undone by one that clipped the top of off. At 36-2, Ganton were under a bit of pressure, but Isaac and Rob combined well to steady things before Rob eventually fell victim to a jaffer.

At 68-3, Pat joined Isaac with a job to do, and the pair did exactly that. Both looked settled at the crease, patiently accumulating runs and rebuilding the innings with a valuable partnership taking us from 68-3 to 166-4.

A rain break briefly halted proceedings, and unfortunately Pat departed first ball after the restart, slashing at one outside off. Will added 8 before his stay was cut short, bringing Fred to the crease for an entertaining finish.

Fred and Isaac put their foot down superbly, adding 64 runs from the final seven overs. Fred brought out some inventive shots while Isaac began sending the ball to all parts of the ground, capping off a brilliant innings by bringing up a superb century. 💯👏 Their late charge helped Ganton post an excellent 243-5 from the 45 overs.

Sadly, that was as far as the day would go. The rain returned during tea and ultimately brought the game to an early end, leaving the points shared and Ganton unable to defend what looked a very competitive total.

With just two games remaining, we’ll look to finish the season strongly and maximise the points available — Bridlington away next week before rounding off the year against Staithes at the A64 Arena.

🏏 MATCH REPORT | GANTON CC vs FILEY CC

Ganton welcomed Filey to the A64 Arena for another important league fixture. After winning the toss, the captain made the decision to bowl first on a wicket that initially appeared to favour bowling rather than batting.

Filey’s opening pair clearly hadn’t read the script. J Dawson came out flying, taking the attack to Ganton and racing to his 50 from just 28 balls, well supported at the other end as Filey quickly built a century opening stand. Shortly after passing 100, Ganton finally made the breakthrough as Dawson came charging down the wicket, with Jack Heslehurst taking the bails off to send him on his way for an excellent 69.

At 102-1 from just 14 overs, Ganton had a serious job on their hands to dry up the runs — and that was executed superbly by this week’s veteran Phil Elliott and Matt Atkinson. Phil found all sorts of turn and varied bounce in the wicket, while Matt bowled a lovely line and length at the other end to put the brakes on Filey’s rapid start.

Once Phil had bowled through his allocation, the opening bowlers returned before Rob Bradley came on from the bottom end and once again proved it was a spinner’s wicket. Despite a well-made 55 from B Rowe, Ganton continued to chip away and eventually dismissed Filey for 213 in 44.5 overs. Considering the visitors had been 102-1 after only 14, it was a fightback Ganton could be very pleased with.

A huge thank you to Sally for another amazing cricket tea — and, more importantly, the infamous Mars Bar crispy was well worth the wait!

With 214 required, Ganton’s openers looked to take their time and play themselves in against some tricky pace and spin. Just as both looked ready to push on, they fell in quick succession. The Cheese Wagon failed to make an indent on the scorecard, before Isaac’s stay at the crease was also short-lived.

At 29-4, Tom and Pat paired up in an attempt to rebuild the innings. Tom looked to be aggressive and take the game back to Filey, but unfortunately held out to a man in the deep. Fred was then undone by one that simply didn’t get up, before Will left one that came back and clipped the top of off stump.

Suddenly, at 49-7, Ganton looked out for the count.

But with the anchor firmly dropped by Pat at one end and Henry Harrison arriving at the other, there was still a glimmer of hope. What followed could only be compared to Headingley, Day Four, 2019.

Henry went on the attack in spectacular fashion, sending eight monster sixes into the surrounding fields, while Pat dug in and gave him the partner he needed. What had looked like a foregone conclusion suddenly became a little more interesting as Henry raced through his 50 and showed absolutely no signs of slowing down.

Pat’s resistance eventually came to an end with Ganton still needing around 100 to win, but Henry continued swinging. After a few more enormous blows into the fields surrounding the A64 Arena, his superb counter-attacking innings finally came to an end for a tremendous 71 from just 38 balls.

Ganton were eventually bowled out for 150 in 36.3 overs, falling 63 runs short. It was ultimately Filey’s day, but recovering from 49-7 to 150 showed plenty of fight when the game could easily have disappeared very quickly.

Credit to Filey, who were the better side on the day and deserved the victory. We have a bye next weekend before the final three games of the season, where we’ll be looking to get back to winning ways, pick up maximum points and finish the year strongly. 🏏💚💛

Ganton CC won a thriller at the A64 Arena, getting themselves firmly back on track in the promotion race.

With the skipper and vice both away, the youngest Bradley took the reins, won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious afternoon.

Jack and Robbie opened against a strong Ebberston attack. Jack battled through the early pace before being undone by one that kept low, while Robbie went on the offensive, combining boundaries with some sharp running to bring up an excellent half-century before departing for 60. Isaac helped steady things through the middle with Rob. Pat failed to make indent in the score card falling victim to another jaffer of a caught & bowled. Ed Lockwood added a valuable 34 before Ronnie provided some late fireworks – including a huge six towards the groundsman’s shed ! Issac played the anchor role to guide us through finishing shy of 50 on 47*, with Ganton closing on a competitive 209-6 from 45 overs.

A massive thank you to Emma and Libby for another outstanding tea – the A64 Arena’s reputation for a top-tier tea was certainly lived up to !

Ebberston came flying out of the blocks in reply, racing to 50-0 before a superb caught and bowled from the stand-in skipper provided the breakthrough. The visitors continued to threaten in the chase, but an excellent middle-over spell from Matt and Tipster brought regular wickets and dragged Ganton back into the contest.

Boyes threatened to swing the game Ebberston’s way late on hitting some long balls into the fields, but Fred held his nerve, producing a beauty to remove him before sending the final batsman’s stumps cartwheeling to seal a brilliant 22-run victory with Ebberston all out for 187.

A fantastic game of cricket and full credit to Ebberston for a hard-fought contest, all the best for the rest of the season. Ganton now head into the final stretch of the season looking to build momentum and pick up maximum points. 🟢🟡🏏

GANTON VS GREAT HABTON MATCH REPORT:
After a chaotic morning that saw Ganton’s squad reduced from 11 players to just 8, the visitors faced an uphill battle. Losing the toss, Ganton were asked to field first.

Henry Harrison and Will Megginson-Wadsworth opened the bowling superbly, with Henry finding a consistent line outside off (making life easier for Pat behind the stumps) and Will beating the edge on numerous occasions. Great Habton reached 59-1 before Ganton fought back brilliantly to leave the hosts 136-7. However, the experience of Simon Watmore proved crucial, his well-made 57 helping Great Habton recover to 234 all out.

Needing 235 with only eight batters, Ganton made an excellent start thanks to Isaac Hatton (55) and Pat Philpot (24), who shared a 76-run opening stand. After the pair fell, wickets came quickly before Henry Harrison (33) reignited the chase, including a huge six into the horse stables. Sadly, Henry held one out to the man in the deep.

Phil and Jimmy battled hard late on providing a glimmer of hope, but Ganton were eventually bowled out for 175.

A valiant effort from everyone involved in difficult circumstances with 8 men.

But with five league games remaining, we now turn our attention to finishing the season strongly and picking up as many wins and maximum points as possible.

🏏 Match Report | Ganton CC vs Fylingdales CC 18/07/2026

Ganton again won the toss and elected to bat on another overcast afternoon, this time back at the A64 Arena. Credit to Jack and the ground staff for all their hard work in producing another cracking wicket offering plenty for the batsmen but enough for the bowlers

With Robbie absent, Jack and Fred opened up against a lively attack that found plenty of bounce and movement. Fred looked in good touch before top-edging one to the bowler, while Cheese Wagon (Rob Bradley) suffered the rarest of days, heading back to join the lads after a 5-ball 🦆. Jack soon followed after lofting one to mid-off after looking in good nick, leaving Ganton wobbling at 24-3.

Pat and Isaac had the job of rebuilding and did it brilliantly. Pat looked solid throughout, driving boundaries beautifully through the off side, while Isaac punished anything short and sending the ball to the rope. They gradually took control of the innings. Pat’s gritty knock came to an end after top edging one to mid-wicket, bringing Ed to the crease. The pair shifted through the gears, with Isaac bringing up a superb maiden century and Ed smashing an aggressive half-century to push Ganton to an excellent 231.

Looking to build on last week’s bowling performance, Ganton made the perfect start. Ed struck first thanks to a smart catch from Jack before Matt took centre stage once again, ripping through the Fylingdales top order with another outstanding five-wicket haul leaving fylingdales 41-6.

Fred, Call and Phil kept the pressure on, with Call and Rob picking up a wicket apiece. Phil deserved more for a superb spell that somehow went unrewarded, before Pat claimed the final wicket with a last-wicket burglary!

Another fantastic all-round team performance. Credit to Isaac and Pat for digging in when things were tough to rescue the innings, Ed for finishing us well with the bat, and to Matt for another sensational five-for that set the tone in the field. And to Mark Lockwood who helped out at late notice in the field to get us to 11 men!!

We head to Brompton next week looking to keep the run going… with Fred Bradley hoping to ruin their weekend for the third time this season! 💪🏏🍻

🏏 Match Report | Scalby CC 2nds vs Ganton CC 11/07/2026

A superb response from the lads as we bounced back from last week’s defeat with a dominant 174-run victory at Carr Lane. 💚💛

Winning the toss, Ganton elected to bat on an overcast afternoon with a lively wicket.

With Robbie absent, our former evening league opening pair were sent out to open the account.

Unfortunately Pat was heading back to the shed early after a jaffer of a caught and bowled saw the end of his innings. That brought the in-form Rob Bradley to the crease, and alongside Jack the pair rebuilt nicely before Jack nicked one behind after getting us to a great start.
Rob looked in complete control throughout, producing a classy century packed with textbook stroke play and some power hitting down the ground.

The middle overs threatened to derail things slightly, with a couple of unfortunate mix-ups leading to run outs for Isaac, just as they looked set, and for skipper before he even got off the mark.

But Brompton’s worst nightmare and Tom steadied the ship with some clean hitting to swing the momentum back our way. Phil chipped in late before Matt Atko produced the shot of the day, launching one miles over cover all the way for a H & M Skip Hire Maximum.

Ganton closed on a very competitive 249.

Scalby’s top order struggled to make a dent in the total. Fred Bradley unleashed a barrage of short thunderbolts to rip through the top order, leaving the hosts reeling at 19-5.

With the damage done, Matt came on to enjoy a bit of stat padding putting 3 wickets to his name. Call also bowled a tight spell finding some good pace and bounce. Ben Benjamin wrapping things up to seal a convincing 174-run win.

A brilliant all-round team performance and the perfect way to bounce back after previous week’s disappointment💪🏏

🏏 Match Report | Ganton CC vs Sherburn CC

Unfortunately it wasn’t our day as we fell to a strong Sherburn side.

Sherburn won the toss on what looked a superb batting wicket and made the most of it. After a solid opening stand, Ganton pulled things back with a brilliant piece of work from W. Bradley to dismiss the well-set Thompson. Wilson reached a deserved half-century, while Pickard and Outhart both made valuable contributions. However, it was C. Miles’ explosive 54 from just 32 balls that really shifted the momentum, helping Sherburn post an imposing 264-7.

A huge thank you to Emma, Libby and little Jasper for another fantastic tea, giving the lads plenty of fuel for the chase. 👏🍰

Needing a big partnership, J. Heslehurst looked in excellent touch and played some classy strokes, but wickets continued to fall at the other end. Ganton slipped from 32-2 to 96-7, leaving too much to do. Jack battled hard to a well-made fifty, with I. Hatton adding useful support, but the innings closed on 119 all out.

Credit to Sherburn, who were simply the better side on the day with both bat and ball.

We’ll dust ourselves down and look to bounce straight back next Saturday away at Scalby 2nds, where the lads will be aiming to return to winning ways and take maximum points. 💚💛🏏

☀️ Another scorching Saturday, another huge result for Ganton CC! 💚💛

Ganton travelled to face unbeaten league leaders Staithes CC in what promised to be a top-of-the-table clash. After losing the toss, Ganton were asked to bat first on what looked a very good wicket against a strong bowling attack.

The openers looked to settle in, but Jack Heslehurst departed early after being squared up by a quality delivery. That brought the in-form “Cheese Wagon” to the crease, and alongside Robbie, the pair looked in complete control. Rob was in fine touch, finding the boundary with some textbook stroke play before Robbie Milner chipped in with a useful start.

Rob’s innings came to an unfortunate end after being caught from a ball that deflected off his helmet—one that many felt should have been called a dead ball. Pat Philpot then missed a straight one that beat him all ends up, but there was no panic in the Ganton ranks.

Isaac Hatton and Fred Bradley rebuilt brilliantly, keeping the scoreboard ticking over and putting the pressure back on Staithes. Isaac looked in outstanding touch as he passed a well-deserved half-century before falling trying to accelerate. Fred followed soon after, bringing Ed Lockwood and Will Bradley together.

The pair produced a superb partnership in the closing overs, running brilliantly between the wickets and punishing anything loose. Ed raced to an aggressive half-century, while “Little Lad”, fresh from welcoming his own little lad into the world, struck a few important boundaries to help Ganton finish on an imposing 250-8.

A huge thank you to Staithes for a fantastic tea, which certainly gave everyone plenty of fuel for the second innings.

Staithes came out positively and immediately put the bowlers under pressure, finding the boundary regularly. However, a moment of magic from Fred Bradley completely changed the game. His spell ripped through the top order, reducing Staithes from 41-0 to 52-3 and swinging the momentum firmly Ganton’s way.

To their credit, Staithes’ middle order dug in well and kept themselves in the contest, with a few chances falling just out of reach as the game remained finely balanced. Ganton needed another breakthrough, and Matt Atkinson provided it with an absolute beauty that opened the door once again.

From there, wickets and runs continued to flow. Phil Elliott bowled superbly into the well-set cow corner trap, claiming three crucial wickets, before Fred fittingly finished the innings exactly how he had started it—with an absolute jaffa that castled the final batsman to seal a memorable victory.

A tremendous all-round performance against a previously unbeaten side sees Ganton move to the top of the Beckett League Division One. A brilliant effort from everyone involved.

🚨Weekly fixture update 2 of 2🚨

☀️ A hot one at the A64 Arena, but another brilliant performance from the lads as Ganton came away with a 121-run win over Bridlington.

Ganton won the toss and elected to bat first on a lovely sunny day. Jack Heslehurst and Robbie Milner opened up, with Robbie falling early to a great bit of fielding. From there, Jack and Rob Bradley steadied things superbly, rebuilding the innings with a brilliant 121-run partnership full of classy stroke play and good running between the wickets.

Jack eventually fell for a well-made 48, looking to go over mid-off, before Isaac had a short stay at the crease. Rob and Pat Philpot then came together to keep the board ticking, rotating the strike well and putting the bad ball away. Rob went on to bring up a faultless and superb century, finishing with 114, while Pat stuck in and finished unbeaten on 38* as Ganton posted 236-9 from their 45 overs.

A huge thank you to Liz for another amazing tea, keeping everyone well fed on a warm afternoon.

Bridlington came out looking to attack, hitting their first ball for four, but Matt Atkinson kept his cool and bowled beautifully, picking up the big wicket thanks to a brilliant catch from Robbie at second slip. Phil Elliott also did a great job tying things up early on, building pressure without quite getting the rewards his spell deserved.

The change bowling then swung the momentum firmly Ganton’s way. James Richardson struck with his very first ball — not one for the coaching manual, but they all count! From there, he ripped through the Bridlington lower order, finishing with an outstanding 5 wickets and sealing it in emphatic fashion with a hat-trick.

🚨 1 of 2 Weekly Fixture Update 🚨

Another excellent day on the road for Ganton CC as we made the trip to Fylingdales on a cloudy and blustery afternoon that looked certain to offer the bowlers plenty of assistance.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Jack Heslehurst and Robbie Milner laid the perfect platform. Both dug in superbly, working hard for every run and taking us to drinks without loss and just shy of three figures. Jack and Robbie then fell in quick succession, bringing the middle order into play. Isaac Hatton looked comfortable throughout his well-made 30, while late contributions from Fred Bradley and Rob Bradley helped push us to 188 – a very competitive total on a wicket that never looked straightforward.

Following an excellent tea courtesy of our hosts, Ganton set about defending the target. An early breakthrough from Greg Cousins got us up and running, but credit must go to the Fylingdales top order who battled hard through a testing spell of bowling. With a partnership developing, skipper Will ‘Rabbit’ Bradley brought himself into the attack and removed the big fish Husband. Estill compiled a very good half-century, but wickets continued to fall around him.

One of the moments of the day came from Will Tippy-Ann Megginson, who somehow managed to defy Newton’s Law of gravity with a stunning catch on the boundary that had everyone scratching their heads.

From there, the pressure told, runs dried up, wickets tumbled, and Fylingdales were eventually bowled out for 124.
