Our young 2nd XI recorded a brilliant victory over second in the league Bracebridge Heath to conclude the season on Saturday! π
Asked to bat first, the innings got off to a strong start with Dan Crew leading the way with 32 (47) opening the batting and being further supported by Dan who scored 27 (37) and Dhruv who scored 30 (46) batting at 4. Unfortunately, from a strong position, the innings never quite kicked on and we were bowled out for 159 in 41.3 overs.
This meant the bowling attack had to bowl brilliantly to restrict BBH, which they did. After an unfortunate start with the ball beating the bat many times, BBH found themselves at 90-1 in the 26th over, but the bowling attack continued to work hard and when skipper Luke Ellis (2-20 from 9) got the breakthrough, the lads fought and got what they deserved. A brilliant all round display with the ball saw BBH bowled out for 148, with the wickets shared between Harry Doyle taking 3-23 (9), Archie bowling brilliantly for his 2-18 (9), Ben Crew taking 2-30 (8.5) and Harry Crampton picking up a wicket too.
It was absolutely brilliant to see a team full of homegrown talent fighting to the end of the game for each other, and with the oldest player being only 22, this bodes well for the coming seasons at STCC which we are all very excited for!
