🏃‍♂️ GREAT NORTH RUN DONE! 🏅

A massive congratulations to everyone who took on the Great North Run today! Whether you smashed a PB, just ran to enjoy the atmosphere, to raise awareness from for your charity, just to make it over that finish line, (or maybe combination of all 4 🤣) you should be massively proud of yourselves. 👏

As always it’s been brilliant seeing so many of you put the work in, deal with the niggles, survive the training miles and finally get your moment on that finish line.

But this isn’t just about the runners…

While I’m on A massive thank you to ALL of my clients too. Whether you’re a runner, gym-goer, weekend warrior, recovering from an injury/work related postural issuetrying to keep active, or just doing your best to keep your body functioning like it’s supposed to 😂, I appreciate y’all

The Great North Run might be the big event of the weekend, but every person who walks through the clinic door has their own goals, challenges and little victories.

So tonight, guys, put your feet up, eat something ridiculous and enjoy the achievement.

And to everyone else… I’ll see you in the clinic when your body inevitably decides it would like a little attention too! 😂

Well done everyone. You’ve earned it. ❤️

❓Are noisy knees normal?!

Gerald McCoy and colleagues used ‘vibration arthrography’ to listen to the knees of 250 healthy people. Patellofemoral crepitus was recorded in 99% of them! Lateral knee noise was less common, noted in 22% of subjects.

While this is reassuring most of us don’t have access to this kit to assess our patients. More recent research suggests knee sounds that are audible to the naked ear may be less common.

Crouch et al. (2025) reported knee crepitus in 36% of pain-free people and it was significantly more prevalent in those with pathology, occurring in 81% of people with knee OA.

So while knee noises may be common in asymptomatic populations it’s important to consider crepitus and joint sounds within each individual presentation and address the concerns a patient may have.

For more on assessment of knee crepitus, clicks and clunks be sure to watch our new episode of the Paper Round, available soon for members of Running Repairs Online.

In it we’ll explore how to examine knee sounds including location and where they occur in knee range plus what this can suggest in terms of pathology. We’ll also cover the impact crepitus can have on patients, how it correlates to patellofemoral pain and key messages to deliver in patient education.

P.S. Do I get extra credit for the song choice, ‘Crunch time’? 😂

Too Right ! I’d hate to have to live with and injured person though , especially a runner 😱 poor autumn

Had a patient this week who was constantly apologising for his obvious frustration and anger towards being injured.

Had to reassure him that it’s ok to feel that way and that I’m ok with him expressing it.

Injury affects so much more than simply the physical.

It can affect our sense of identity and belonging, our social engagement and many other areas of our day to day lives that we may not fully appreciate the impact of when fully fit.

Take time to process the full impact an injury and time off sport may have.
