Raven’s under 12 girls

**MATCH REPORT**

Today saw us face a side that got promoted with us last season from Division 2 in Washington Panthers. Some injury news struck on Wednesday, with Niamh being laid up with a broken collarbone for the next six weeks. Our wizard from the left wing, Libby, stepped up and took Niamh’s place in the centre of our defence, and the captain’s armband was handed over to Lucy, who has really stepped up this season in all aspects of her game.

The game started off a bit slow and scrappy (may have been the 8:30am kick‑off time 😁). It was Washington that pushed forward and won the first corner of the game. In came the resulting corner and, with the Ravens still in their pyjamas, the Washington girls pounced and prodded home the ball. But in true Ravens fashion, they always come back fighting to get back into the game. What I remember was a bit of a goal‑mouth scramble in the Washington penalty area, and the ball dropped to Lucy and boooosh she smashed it in. 1–1. The half‑time whistle blew and it was time to regroup. The half‑time message was pretty much: up the work rate and effort, and we can take away the three points.

The second half kicked off and it seemed like the half‑time team talk had hit home. The Ravens really upped the work rate and pushed on to try and get ahead in the game. The ball broke to Lucy out wide and, as she had done most of the game, she went at the Washington defence — past one defender, past two, then past three defenders — into the box and went in on goal. But just when everyone on the touchline thought she was going to shoot, Sienna burst into the box screaming for the square pass. Lucy looked up, saw Sienna, and played the pass. Sienna’s eyes must have lit up, and slotted it home. 2–1 to the Ravens. Now it was time to push on and get another.

Washington had ideas of their own to get back into the game, and as we found out last season, one of their main threats is a long throw. Long throw after long throw was coming into the Ravens box, but the Ravens defence stood firm and cleared the ball time after time. The Ravens got a throw‑in of their own down the left‑hand side and, with the ball bouncing around the midfield, the ball fell to Sienna — and we all know what comes next when Sienna shifts it onto her right foot in shooting distance outside the box… oh yes, smashed into the bottom corner. 3–1.

Washington had other ideas and wanted to get back into the game. After defending what felt like 50 throw‑ins, eventually they had a bit of luck and a break of the bounce. A shot at goal, saved by Scarlett, and their attacker was sharper to react and poke it home. This set up a very nervy finish — from the sidelines at least. Washington slung in a few more dangerous throws, but in the end the Ravens held on and the game finished 3–2.

Girl of the Game today went to Libby. Libby put herself out of her comfort zone for the team today, playing in a position she is not comfortable with and has never played for our team. She played the position really well and she should be really proud of herself for stepping up and putting in an awesome performance. Well done, Libby 👏🏼👏🏼

It’s been a fantastic start to the season. Three games and three wins has us sitting top of Division 1. Who would have thought that two seasons ago, when we were in this very same division getting beat 15/20 nil each week? Very well done, girls — be proud of yourselves, and we will see you on Wednesday at training.

Roseberry Park U9 Eagles 🦅 1 - 4 Opposition

The U9 Eagles put in a determined and encouraging performance against strong opposition, showing great teamwork, resilience, and improvement throughout the match despite the difficult windy conditions.

The game started at a high tempo with chances at both ends. Oliver was called into action early, producing several excellent saves to keep the Eagles in the game. The team moved the ball well, with Luca, Jude, and Jamie combining the opposition goal, while JJ created a promising chance and Jamie made some important defensive interventions.

Opposition took advantage of their opportunities to establish a lead, but the Eagles continued to battle hard. Jamie, Jacob, Jenson, and Caetano all contributed with some strong defensive work, while Oliver continued to impress with a number of outstanding saves, including a brilliant goal-line stop.

The Eagles also showed good composure in possession, working the ball around well despite the challenging conditions. Theo and Caetano both threatened going forward, while Jacob did a great job forcing attackers wide and limiting opposition chances. At half-time, opposition led 3-0, having been clinical with their finishing.

The second half saw a much-improved Eagles performance. The defence looked more organised, with JJ, Jacob, Jenson, and Jude making important clearances and winning their 50/50 battles. Oliver continued his excellent afternoon with more superb saves, keeping the team competitive throughout. Going forward, the Eagles created several chances of their own. Luca and Jamie both had efforts on goal, Theo forced a corner, and Caetano looked lively in attack.
The team's passing improved as the half progressed, with several good combinations creating openings.Although opposition added a fourth goal, the Eagles never gave up. Their persistence was rewarded when Theo found the net to score a well-deserved goal and give the team something to celebrate. Strong defending from Jacob and Jenson, along with some excellent passing from Caetano, highlighted a positive second-half display.

Full Time: U9 Eagles 1 - 4 Opposition

While the result did not go the Eagles' way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The team defended well, passed the ball with confidence, worked hard for each other, and showed great determination from start to finish. The second-half performance in particular demonstrated the progress the team is making as they continue to develop together. 🦅⚽

U13 Seahawks

At home this morning and the message was start quick, the lads listened and we started the stronger of both sides. We took the lead from a great touch inside and finish into top corner, against run of play the away team pulled it level before more good play lead to another through ball and finish to take us in at half time leading.
We normally start second half strong but game flipped today and away team broke us down too easy a number of times and eventually lead 4-2 at one point. We didnt stop and another we got back from another tidy finish and good build up play we were pushing for an equalizer but wasnt to be today but after hitting bar and post twice along with a good team performance we can turn the dominant performances into wins which from todays performance gives us hope.
