🌜The nights may be drawing in but the tennis doesn’t stop - at least as long as Mother Nature allows! 🌞🌈

As usual, there’s a packed programme of autumn activities, with junior coaching returning on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, and lots of coaching and social play options for adults - whether you’re a member or not 🎾

🎾🎾 Junior tennis coaching is back on Wednesday afternoons after school, and Saturday mornings, under our highly experienced Head Coach Bob Clark.

While our 12+ groups are now full, we still have a few spaces left on our 5-7 years and 8-11 groups.

🎾🎾 Ladies C enjoyed a long summer season of 12 challenging but always enjoyable matches in Division 4, which recently concluded with a much delayed match on the penultimate day of the season.

In an exciting finish, the team ended with the same 35 points as rivals Sampford Peverell B, but stayed up by the finest of margins by notching one more victory. Well done to all who played: Teresa, Katie, Susan, Liz, Jenny, Judith, Fay, Kelly, Isabelle, Imogen, Karen, and team captain Julie.

The team look forward to consolidating its position in Division 4 next summer - hopefully without another nail-biting finish!💪👏

🎾🎾 A big thank you to Julie C, Barry, David D, Duncan, Geoff C, Teresa, Annie, Imogen, Jamie, Marek and Moby for helping out on last Saturday’s work party - and of course to Simon for organising and putting in a huge shift himself.

We made great progress taming the conifer and other hedges, weeding, and clearing the path between the upper and lower courts ready for potential remedial work over the coming months 🪏

Thanks also to Judith who’s done a great job replacing the seat covers on our much-used bench. It’s a huge improvement 💪👏

🎾🎾 It was a tough summer season for our Men’s A team, who faced formidable opposition in division 1 and finished the season with a couple of draws but no wins on the board. As a result, they fall down to division 2 next summer 🙁

Well done to the core team of captain Iain Horlock, Stuart Loudwell, James Morbey and Barry Follett who battled hard throughout, ably supported by many others including Toby Taylor, Rob Haines, Adrian Wood, Peter Moroz and Owen Barribal.

Thanks to everyone who played, a valiant effort!💪👏

Congratulations to club member Susan Green on her first match for Devon Ladies! A tough result but great to represent the county 😊💪

DEVON LADIES V SOUTH WALES OVER 70’s

The final match for the over 70s ladies team was played on 25th August at the Morfa Tennis Centre in Swansea. Jill & Josie, the Devon first pair, got off to an excellent start going 3-0 up but the South Wales pair of Mary & Judy who had not played together before soon started to play better and managed to break back. There were some long hard hitting rallies but eventually Jill & Josie broke serve at 5-5 and won the set 7-5. Despite a lot of deuces the Welsh pair dominated the 2nd set and won it 6-0. Jill & Josie got off to a good start in the 10 point tiebreak but the Welsh pair caught up to 6 - 6 and then won 3 points to go 9-6 up. Jill & Josie fought hard and the Welsh pair made a few unforced errors which allowed the Devon pair to catch up to 9 -9. From then on it was a real battle with both pairs missing opportunities to close out the match. Eventually the Devon pair were able to clinch the match 17 -15!
Barbara and Susan, the second Devon pair were not able to do so well. It was Susan’s first match for Devon and therefore they were determined to try and play as well as they possibly could. Maybe they tried too hard and even though they had lots of deuces and good rallies they did not manage to convert either match into a win.
For Josie and Jill,the first set of the second match against Freda and Kim was also a real battle. Most of the games went to deuce with long rallies and each pair trying to out manoeuvre the other. Again the Devon pair started well but the Welsh pair came back and won the set 6-4. In the second set accurate lobbing by Kim and excellent net play by Freda dominated and the Devon pair rather ran out of steam to lose it 6-2.

Also spotted in Harriet's TV post-match interview were long-time club members and regular US Open visitors, Jennifer Rose and Chris Rose😀 Hope you're both having a great time and enjoying the honey deuce! 🍹

🎾🎾Thanks to everyone who took part in our bank holiday tournament on Sunday. It was a great turnout and the rain held off for an entertaining morning of American drive-style doubles.

Congratulations to Glayson Cardoso Da Silva and Donna Moss who came top of the leader boards. And a big thank you to Barry Follett for organising.

Thank you too from our cleaner Lindsay, who raised an impressive £60.50 for Seaton Pantomime through her cake sale. Well done everyone! 👏

🎾🎾 Congratulations to our Mixed A team, whose 6-2 victory over Willand on Tuesday meant they clinched the Division 1 title 🏆👏🍾

Building on their winter season title, and previous summer campaigns which had seen them finish 3rd and then 2nd, the team won 8 or their 10 matches, with one draw and just one loss.

Well done to all the squad: Becs Hudson, Iain Horlock, Jen Rose, team captain Stuart Loudwell, Matt Rayner, Jo Little, Toby Taylor and James Morbey.

A great achievement! 🏆💪🥳🎉

🎾🎾 The competitive summer season is starting to draw to a close for Seaton’s nine league teams.

It proved a very successful one for Mixed C, who finished 2nd in Division 3 and secured promotion for 2027. The season was also memorable for not having a single match postponed for rain!

Despite facing some very strong opposition – most notably David Lloyd B and Bovey Tracey A – the team chalked up an impressive 6 wins. Thanks go to captain Jenny Moroz and her squad of Peter Moroz, Dave Wraith, James Morbey, Adrian Wood, Steve Grant, Donna Moss, Sarah Hudson & Jane Silk – who celebrated with the traditional end of season curry!

Mixed B achieved a solid mid-table finish one division higher, winning 4 matches, drawing 2, and losing 4. Captain Barry Follett played all 10 games, supported by Matt Rayner-Parr, James Morbey, Adrian Wood and Peter Moroz. Julie Hopkinson led the appearances for the ladies, supported by Jo Little, Carolyn Adkin, Donna Moss, Teresa Hancock, Jane Silk and Jenny Moroz.
