Couple of good results this weekend with the First XI on a three game winning streak and the Third XI climbing up their table. SCC 💙

Today, before the start of our 1st XI fixture, Selby Cricket Club will observe a minute’s silence at 11:55am in memory of Ben White.

Ben was known to many across our club, through his brother Iwan, his family and his own appearances for Selby, as well as through the wider local cricketing community.

We know that many people who knew Ben, or who wish to show their support for his family and friends, may not be able to be with us in person today. If you would like to join us, the tribute will be visible on our Frogbox live stream and we invite you to pause for a moment of reflection at 11:55am.

Our thoughts remain with Mike, Catherine, Iwan and all those who knew and loved Ben.

It is with great sadness that Selby Cricket Club shares the heartbreaking news of the tragic loss of Ben White, aged 19.

Many at Selby Cricket Club will know Ben through his brother Iwan, a much-liked and respected member of our senior playing group. Ben was a proud and loyal player for Whitley Bridge Cricket Club.

Whilst Ben’s loyalty was firmly rooted to Whitley he did make several appearances for Selby alongside Iwan and certainly made a lasting impression.
Many will remember his superb innings of 109 for our 4th XI against Thorpe Willoughby in August 2024, a knock that demonstrated his cricketing talent.
Ben was known to many through cricket, school, friendships and the wider local community, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Our thoughts, love and heartfelt condolences are with Mike, Catherine, Iwan and all of Ben’s family, friends and teammates at this unimaginably difficult time.

As a mark of respect, Selby Cricket Club will observe a minute’s silence before this weekend’s senior fixtures. We will continue to support Iwan and his family in whatever way we can and know that all those connected with the club will keep them in their thoughts in the days and weeks ahead.

Ben will be remembered and greatly missed.

Our results from Saturday.

Some very strong performances with bat and ball in the First Team, with Corey Paull (91) just missing out on another 100. Rob Peet was the pick of the bowlers with 4/23.

The Third Team are back up and running with a great team victory over TABS. Skipper Isaac Leung scored a brisk 75 and, alongside Steve Sherwood (64), got us off to a fantastic start and set things up perfectly for the rest of the batting lineup. Alfie Laverack was the pick of the bowlers with 4/36.
