Was super excited but a little apprehensive going into HYROX Bologna. Galen and I decided to roll the dice at Pro Doubles (heavier sleds, lunges, farmers and wall balls, not that you’ve jacked your job in and become a HYROX Pro 🤣)
I’d trained super consistently and was feeling strong and very happy with my running. However a busy schedule and a stubborn head cold in the weeks leading into the race left me a little nervous of how I would perform.
The race went amazing, we left nothing in the tank and I actually felt like I was “racing” not just hanging on. In a very competitive field we took 1st place by 13 seconds in a time of 1:03:37; a PB in doubles and a qualification slot at The Worlds in Stockholm in June 😀
Bologna was a cool city, lots of sightseeing, pasta, pizza and Italian sunshine 😎
Another awesome HYROX weekend with Galen 👊🏼

“PINES to POZNAN”
Gym members were out having fun at races last weekend, testing their fitness and pushing themselves.
Richard “Spike” was racing the Sherwood Pines Duathlon 🏃🏽🚴🏼♂️🏃🏼♂️An 8 min PB over last year suggests he’s doing something right 🙌🏼
Galen “HYROX King” travelled to Poland, Poznan for a singles PRO weights race. With a blistering time of 1:11 he is closing in on his target of dub 1:10 💪🏼
The diversity of activities members are involved in really gives our gym a unique community and atmosphere.
WE ARE SURROUNDED BY INSPIRATION, in many different forms; which helps make us all that little bit better 😃

HYROX LONDON Success 😃👊🏼
Strong racing from Rachel & Ed, their first outing in the mixed doubles race. Rachel’s first ever race; safe to say she will definitely be back for more.
Lizzie racing to a PB time and narrowly missing out on a podium, finishing 4th in AG; another great performance.
Well done guys 😁

2025/26 HYROX Season is rocking 😃
🇮🇹 ROME: Doubles with Galen (AG 2nd)
🇵🇱GDANSK: Singles (AG 1st)
🇬🇧 BIRMINGHAM: Doubles with Ben 1:07:33
🇪🇸 MADRID: Doubles with Tom 1:08:14
Race number 13 in Madrid 🇪🇸 with Tom was great. Tom joined our gym last year as a fit, strong individual who loves training. The pull for him to compete a HYROX got stronger, he upped his run training, threw in more conditioning and specific HYROX sessions and got himself ready for Madrid. A fantastic debut performance and a cracking few days away with him exploring Madrid 😎
HYROX is a great event to give your Strength & Conditioning training a competitive focus. I’ve been racing it since the first event in London in 2021 and whilst I can, I’ll not be stopping anytime soon 💪🏼
If you are training for a race or thinking of racing and want to maximise your chance of success drop me a message; I’d love to chat 💪🏼

FITNESS for LIFE
FITNESS for PERFORMANCE
Whether you are looking to improve your fitness for life’s activities or build fitness for performance in sporting activities; you have to be STRONG and AEROBICALLY efficient.
HOW DO YOU GET STRONG? Lift, Push and Pull heavy stuff. At BG Fitness these are our TRAIN sessions where members follow a structured, progressive programme, focusing on all movements across the upper and lower body muscle groups.
HOW DO YOU GET AEROBICALLY FIT? Raise your heart rate to higher levels for varying periods of time. We call these ENGINE sessions and we use the Ergs (row, bike, ski) in addition to full body movements, lighter loads and longer working times.
It is essential that BOTH fitness components are trained. Have you got gaps in your current training? Are you doing too many high intensity sessions? Are you only lifting? Are you lifting heavy enough? Are you training in the “grey zone” (a mix of both but neither one or the other being done effectively)
At BG Fitness we program both types of training across the week, so you maximise your Fitness GAINS. Our members are getting fit for LIFE and fit for ATHLETIC performance.
And for those wanting positive BODY COMPOSITIONAL changes, our training sets you up to build muscle and reduce body fat…….however it’s your NUTRITIONAL behaviour for the other 23 hours in the day that really drives compositional changes (we’ll save that discussion for another day)
If this sounds like something you need, fit for life or fit for performance drop me a message and we can get you started in our friendly, supportive, fun group sessions 💪🏼

☹️ Don’t be SAD this winter.
😏 With fewer daylight hours and sometimes a complete absence of the sun we just don’t get the same exposure to sunlight and therefore our bodies can’t produce the same amount of Vitamin D as during the spring/summer months. This can be a problem because Vitamin D is vital for bone health, immune system, brain function and enhanced mood, as it’s linked to serotonin regulation.
🙂 There are plenty of food sources of Vitamin D, oily fish, egg yolk, mushrooms; however if you don’t regularly eat these foods in quantity, you should definitely use a supplement.
😃 Make sure your Vitamin D intake is high this winter; there are too many positives not to do it.
