Sunday XI vs Nawton Grange CC

Nawton Grange CC won the toss and elected to bat. The visitors made a steady start, but wickets began to fall with breakthroughs in the 5th and 8th overs. A strong partnership then developed, and despite our efforts we were unable to make another breakthrough until the 20th over, when Jordan Richardson struck twice. He followed that up with another wicket in the 22nd over to put us back in control.

Joshua Nickerson finished with 3 wickets, while Nick Hatfield claimed an impressive 4 wickets, with both bowlers taking two wickets in their final overs. Their efforts helped bowl Nawton Grange out for 155 in 34 overs.

In reply, Nathan Coates continued the form he showed on Saturday, making 26 before being dismissed. Tom Harland, Rich Milner, Leo Howard and Chris Howard all made useful contributions with the bat, nobody was able to go on and make a decisive impact. As a result, we fell short of the target in a disappointing batting performance.

We'll look to bounce back and go again next week. 🏏

Saturday saw our 1st XI host Colton Institute. Winning the toss, we elected to field first and got off to the perfect start.

Rich Waterton led the bowling attack superbly, taking a wicket in the first over and adding a second in the fifth. He continued his outstanding spell by claiming another three wickets to finish with an impressive five-wicket haul. Jake Watson chipped in with two wickets, while Jordan Richardson and Steve Watson both contributed, helping restrict the visitors to an achievable total of 143.

In reply, openers Johnny Cockerill and Steve Watson made a steady start, putting on 47 for the first wicket before Steve was unfortunately run out. Johnny continued to bat well, making 39, but after his dismissal we struggled to build another significant partnership, however, Nathan Coates added a valuable 34 to the total keeping us in the game.

The match went right down to the wire, with a tense final over keeping everyone on edge. In the end, neither side could be separated, resulting in a highly unusual and dramatic tied match.

Our 2nd XI enjoyed a more comfortable afternoon away at Thorpe Willoughby 2nd XI.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, they posted an impressive 216 for 6 from their allotted overs. Andy Rowley led the way with 57, while Khalil Afzal produced a brilliant innings of 79.

The bowlers then showed no mercy, with wickets falling regularly throughout the chase. Tom Grant was the pick of the attack with a fantastic four wickets, while Rhys Howard and Raoul North claimed three apiece. The hosts could only manage 135 before being bowled out, securing a convincing victory for our 2nd XI.

A fantastic day for the Sunday XI today!

At home to Yapham CC, we lost the toss and were put into bat.

There were excellent contributions throughout the innings, led by the two Toms. Tom Harland produced a superb 57, while Tom Holroyd added a valuable 24. Rajesh Kaspandian top-scored with an excellent 59, helping us reach a competitive total of 190.

With the ball, our attack got off to the perfect start. Opening bowlers Jake Watson and Harry Knight were incredibly economical, conceding just 20 runs from their combined 10 overs and immediately putting the opposition under pressure.

The wickets then began to fall regularly. Rajesh capped off a fine all-round performance by taking three wickets, while Tom Holroyd claimed two. Bradley Howard, Jesse Holmes, Nathan Coates and Amjad Khader all chipped in with wickets as well, helping to dismiss Yapham CC for 106.

After a disappointing Saturday, it was great to bounce back and secure a well-deserved victory on Sunday. A terrific team performance all round. 🏏👏

A tough afternoon for our 1st XI away at Oulton yesterday.

After a promising start in the field, with Rich Wharton claiming two early wickets, we were unable to maintain control as the hosts recovered well to post 197 – always a challenging target to chase.

Unfortunately, our reply got off to the worst possible start with both opening batters dismissed without scoring. Charlie Brackley provided some resistance with a well-made 25, but regular wickets made it difficult to build any momentum. Nathan Coates remained unbeaten on 28 from just 27 balls, but we ultimately fell short of the target.

Meanwhile, our 2nd XI were left without a game after Hillam & Monk Fryston 2nd XI were unable to field a team.

We'll regroup, work hard this week, and look to bounce back with improved fortunes next weekend.

Sunday saw our team travel to Woodhouse Grange for another challenging fixture.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts posted 199 in their allotted overs. Our bowlers worked hard throughout, with wickets shared between Jake Watson, Charlie Brackley, Rajesh Kaspandian and Nathan Coates.

In reply, our Sunday XI put up a strong fight. Leo Howard and Nathan Coates both retired after reaching 30, while Charlie Brackley added valuable runs to keep the chase alive. Newcomer Kyle Brazil chipped in with 5, and Jessie Holmes finished unbeaten on 17, but despite the determined effort, we fell just short of the target.

We'll regroup and go again next week.

A disappointing Saturday for both teams as they came away with just 2 points each, despite some positive performances.

The 1st XI hosted Green Hammerton and, after losing the toss, were put in to bat first.
Openers Johnny Cockerill and Steve Watson made a solid start, putting on 44 for the first wicket before Johnny was dismissed. Charlie Brackley then joined Steve at the crease, and the pair continued to build the innings, taking the score to 104. Unfortunately, the batting line-up then suffered a collapse, with wickets falling in quick succession. Valuable contributions from Nathan Coates and Steve Dobson helped steady the innings and push the total on, allowing Hemingbrough to post a respectable 187 all out.
Green Hammerton began their chase strongly but suffered two quick setbacks in the fifth over thanks to Jordan Richardson's bowling and some excellent catching in the field. Jordan claimed his third wicket in the ninth over to keep the pressure on the visitors. Steve Dobson, Imaan Ahmad and Karthickeyan Subramani also chipped in with wickets, but Green Hammerton ultimately reached their target in the 36th over.

The 2nd XI travelled to Cawood to face their 1st XI, and elected to bat after winning the toss.
Raoul North was the standout performer with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 49, agonisingly short of a half-century, as the final wicket fell in the 36th over.
In response, Cawood lost an early wicket to Andy Rowley, giving the visitors an encouraging start in the field. However, the next breakthrough proved much harder to find, with Cawood reaching 84 before Joshua Nickerson struck in the 22nd over. Brad Howard added two more wickets, but Cawood maintained control of the chase and reached their target in 33 overs to claim the 10 points.
A frustrating day overall, but plenty of individual contributions to build on.
The Sunday XI go again today away at Woodhouse Grange.
