After 11 years of fun and friendships it is time to close the curtains on Lion Fitness 😢
What a journey it's been, from PT sessions at homes and classes in Village halls to running a successful and vibrant fitness studio with hundreds of people coming through the doors.
I worked tirelessly to make Lion Fitness a place for like minded people to enjoy their training together and I believe I really did achieve that.
This wouldn't have been possible without the loyal support of my "lions" and of other instructors who have worked with me over the years. For that I will always be truly grateful.
Whilst there is sadness that I'll be closing the doors for the final time next week, I've known for sometime that now is the right moment for me to move on to new challenges.
I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came along and enjoyed the ride. With a special thank you to my wife Vicky, who has supported and encouraged me throughout this adventure.
I genuinely hope you'll always look back at your training at Lion with fond memories.

From the start of December, I’ll be taking on a new job as the Head of Triathlon at the University of Leeds.
Inevitably this means there will need to be changes at Lion Fitness. If I haven’t already (and before the rumour mill starts to whirl) I will try and speak to those people most impacted by this in the coming days.

Join me for my next monthy clinic - Sports & Performance testing.
The VALD Forcedecks I use are an invaluable tool in strength testing, monitoring, injury prevention, and recovery and rehabilitation. They provide clear and objective data to analyse your physical condition and to help formulate the basis of your future training programme.
By using a battery of tests I can use the Forcedecks to;
✅ Measure Full Body Maximal Strength
✅ Analyse Stability & Balance
✅ Test explosive power (Rate of Force Development & Reaction Times)
✅ Identify Asymmetries (often a precursor to injuries)
✅ Look at Sport Specific Testing - such as running, swimming, football, rugby.
What will you learn from your results?
1️⃣ Across many of the tests we can compare your results against normative data for your sex/age group. This can inform decisions on areas of weakness to focus on within your training.
2️⃣ Insight into any physical asymmetries. Whilst asymmetry is very common and to a degree is expected, the results can identify areas of significant asymmetry which indicate an imbalance in strength between limbs and the potential increase in risk of injury.
3️⃣ You’ll have a baseline to use against future tests. You can accurately monitor your progress over a training block and evaluate if changes in your training programme are having the desired outcomes.
4️⃣ The data can be used when returning to exercise after injury. Pre-injury results give you a goal to work towards and an objective view of your readiness to return to sport.
