What a competition. We have never seen a results sheet quite like this one!

The Ladies Titleist 4-ball Better-ball, previously known as the Ping Pairs, brought some absolutely unbelievable drama to the club this week. In fact, we don’t think a result like this will ever be repeated anywhere again!

When the final cards came in, we had an unprecedented, massive tie at the top with five pairs scoring an incredible **38 points**. To separate the field, the countback rules had to be pushed to the absolute limit, checking the back 9, back 6, back 3, and down to the single holes.

A huge congratulations to all our incredible competitors. Here are the final standings:

🥇 **1st Place:** Julie Smyth & Maxine Wagstaff – Took the top spot with a brilliant 20 on the back 9 and 14 on the back 6.
🥈 **2nd Place:** Sally Burnell & Aileen Stockton – Secured a close second, matching the 20 on the back 9 and delivering 12 on the back 6.
🥉 **3rd Place:** Lynda Robinson & Sharon Holden – Clinched third place after a fantastic performance, breaking clear of the remaining pack with a superb 18 on the back 9.
👏 **4th Place:** Ann O'Neill & Mary Cresham – Pushed the field all the way, finishing with a brilliant 17 on the back 9, 12 on the back 6, 7 on the back 3, and 3 on the back 1.
👏 **5th Place:** Jennifer Hammond & Suzanne Jobling – Rounded out the top tier, matching the field with a fantastic 16 on the back 9.

To have five pairs all finish on the exact same winning score is practically unheard of, what a testament to how competitive our ladies section is!

A fantastic day of golf here at Drax today as we welcomed the Rabbits Green Zone teams! 🏌🏼‍♂️

Huge congratulations to our team for taking the win on home soil, with a strong performance from Cave Castle to secure 2nd place. Special mention goes to Graham Laws (Malton & Norton Golf Club) for posting the top score of the day with 36 points.

It’s all heating up in the league table! After three events, we are currently locked in a dead heat at the top with Masham, sharing both league points and Stableford totals.

NERGA 2026 2026 NERGA (15 to 28 Handicap Index) has 33 Clubs divided into four zones. Over 550 players will compete as individuals and within their Club team for a place at our Finals Day in September to become NERGA Club and Individual Champions.

A Busy Day at Drax Golf Club!

These initiatives are essential to our vision of integrating wildlife corridors and native woodland canopies into the fabric of our course. It is a privilege to see these young saplings beginning to thrive, ensuring a greener, more resilient future for our game and our community.

Together, we are cultivating a legacy that respects our heritage while protecting the environment for generations to come.

🎯 The Streak Continues: Pete McVay!

Someone needs to check Pete’s clubs for magnets, because this man cannot be stopped. Following on from his mind-blowing two holes-in-one last year, Pete did it again this weekend, acing the 8th hole! Unbelievable consistency, Pete. What a player!

🥂 The First of Many: Martin Dobson!

Today, history was made on the 5th hole. A massive congratulations to Martin Dobson, who carded his first-ever hole-in-one! That magical moment you’ll never forget, Martin, and we are absolutely thrilled to celebrate it with you.

As you enjoy a round this week, you might notice a bit of extra buzz across our fairways. We are proud to share our course with some of nature’s hardest workers, and we are committed to making sure they have a safe, welcoming home.

Sustainability is woven into the very fabric of Drax Golf Club. Our team works hard to maintain an ecological balance where sport and local wildlife can thrive side by side.

Here are a few ways we are supporting our essential pollinators on the course:

Vibrant Wildflower Areas: We have strategically sown beautiful wildflower meadows across the course. These colourful patches are a haven for pollinators, providing a vital food source for bees and butterflies alike.

Bug Hotels: Tucked away in quiet, secluded areas around the course, our custom-built insect hotels provide crucial sanctuary and nesting grounds for native solitary bees and other vital invertebrates, helping keep our ecosystem healthy and balanced.

A healthy course is a biodiverse course. Next time you are out on the fairways, take a moment to look out for our busy little neighbours and enjoy the natural beauty of our green oasis! ⛳️💛

⛳️ Tournament Triumph & Major Success at Drax! ⛳️

It has been an incredible weekend for the club, with our members delivering some fantastic results both at home, and away.

🏆 NERGA Victory

A massive congratulations to the Drax NERGA team for winning the first round of this year’s tournament at Ripon yesterday.
A special shout-out goes to Stuart Kerr, who took home the individual prize with an outstanding score of 41 points. Top-tier golfing, Stuart!

Looking ahead, the team travels to Malton & Norton Golf Club this Sunday. We wish the very best of luck to everyone representing Drax. Let's keep that momentum going!

🏆 Jubilee Cup Champions

The first Major of the year is officially in the books. Congratulations to our Jubilee Cup winners, Daniel Pen*stone and Joe Gallagher, who shot 45 points!

The scoring was generally high this year, so competitive, in fact, that four players across the top three pairs saw their handicaps cut. These reductions were triggered by the updated WHS Four-Ball Betterball rules introduced in April 2024.

Well done to everyone who took part, it’s shaping up to be a brilliant season!
