Beautiful morning for tennis as the York Men’s League returns for the summer Pocklington Tennis Club

12/04/2026

It stopped raining at 1.50pm on the Bubwith Tennis courts just in time for the first group of children to start their free coaching tester session with Jack Wood and Carl Atkinson.
All and all we had 18 children participating during the afternoon. Some children and their carers stayed on to have a go on a ball machine which was kindly on loan from one of the members.
It started to rain again at 5pm. Just as we were taking down the bunting and clearing up. April showers did not luckily prevent the event from taking place.
The courts and the club house have been spruced up and look fantastic thanks to the work of many members during past few days.
Thank you all, so lovely to see many new people participating and making this into a successful community event.

The Wine Tasting Evening organised by Bubwith Tennis Club was enjoyed by the nearly 80 attenders. Held at the Bubwith Leisure Centre, and organised in conjunction with Louise Smith from the Jug and Bottle and Jess from Jorvine, the evening featured 6 excellent wines, music from
Mostly Sax, a wine quiz and a raffle. Photographed are Tara Kidd, who won the star raffle prize of a Jug and Bottle hamper, with Club Chairman Shaun Pinchbeck, and Jess and Lou with volunteer helpers. The event was a thank you to the club’s sponsors and we were delighted that , in addition to the Jug and Bottle, Abacus Accountants, Casselden and Walsh Funeral Directors, Bridge Employment Law Ltd, Yorwealth and West Lakes Podiatry all had a presence.

Spring is here. Courts now good enough for some social tennis. Who is interested tomorrow evening (Wednesday, 4/3) under lights from 6pm?
Also, on Saturday, 7/3 from 10.00am. The club decision to invite friends who are not club members along for a free first session now applies 😀After the first session a fee of £3 would apply. Hopefully this will encourage more people to join the club.
