It was the last game of the season yesterday where we hosted local rivals Beighton magpies. As always it was a great game between the two sides with chances galore at either end. We took the lead halfway through the first half after Josh got the ball down the left and switched play with a fantastic ball to Jake D on the right who took one touch and placed it inch perfect into the far corner ⚽️ other chances fell our way with Oscar going close but a good save from there keeper kept it out and Jake D just put it over the bar from the back post. Beighton had chances themselves and capitalised on some tame tackling on our part and to equalise just before half time. The second half was much of the same with us hitting the bar with a great strike from Oscar just before we retook the lead with Carter driving out from midfield and playing it out wide to Jake D who put a brilliant ball into the far post and Oscar latched on to volley it home ⚽️ as time ticked away Beighton was searching for the equaliser and Gabe pulled off a couple off great saves to keep us ahead. The defence put their bodies on the line and all the lads fought to the end to seal the result and finish the season on a high. It’s been an incredble season from the lads and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them for the effort they’ve put in 👍🏼 also a massive thanks to all our parents/grandparents/ fans who turn up every week no matter the weather and support the team it’s really appreciated!

Sunday was cup final day at SGP thorncliffe were we come up against Sheffield lions in a late afternoon clash for the cup. All the lads were up for it from the first whistle with high pressing from the off and we had the first chance of the game a minute in with Josh’s strike going over the bar. We took the lead a minute later with Oscar pouncing on there defender and hit a strike from a tight angle and there keeper couldn’t keep it out ⚽️ the game started to even out and Gabe pulled off a great save which he tipped onto the bar to keep us infront. 5 minutes later we gave a freekick away 20 yards out and there no.10 rifled it into the top corner with an unstoppable shot that no keeper would have had a chance with. The game was end to end for the remainder of the first half but we managed to get our noses infront again with a ball forward from Fred to Oscar to find the back of the net with a calm finish ⚽️ we asked the lads to show the same intensity in the second half and we carried on where we left off with Fred going close with a long range effort not long after the restart. We then got our third goal 5 minutes in after Jake G drove forward from midfield and laid it into Oscar’s path who took a touch out of his feet and whipped it into the far corner ⚽️ we knew we had to keep it tight to see out the game as the opposition were going to come at us full force but 2 minutes later they had an effort on goal and Gabe pulled off a great save yet again but the rebound fell to there player to score. The opposition threw everything at us and managed to get the equaliser 5 minutes later to lead to a tense final 10 minutes. Both teams had many chances in the dying stages of the game but we defended brilliantly to keep them out. Oscar got on the end of 2 great corners from Jake G but both went just wide. We thought we had won it in the last minute of the game as Oscar ran through there defence and pulled the trigger that was destined for the back of net but there midfielder got back and put in a great block to keep it level and send the game to penalties. Unlike the previous rounds we couldn’t convert as we had tired legs and the nerves just got the better of us and the opposition finished 3-1 winners. A tough one to take as the lads put everything they could into the game and didn’t deserve to lose it that way but that’s football sometimes and I’ve got no doubt they will come back stronger. I couldn’t be prouder of each and everyone of them to reach the second cup final of the season, they all put 100% in and played as a team throughout. We keep our heads held high and go again next week for the last game of an unbelievable season for these lads 👍🏼

Sunday was cup semi final day where we hosted Dinnington town for a place in the final. The lads were all up for it and we started brightly piling the pressure on and we took a deserved lead 5 minutes in after Jake D beat his man down the right and found Oscar who squared it across goal for Josh to poke home from close range ⚽️ we kept on the attack and come close with Oscar striking the post. Oscar then hit another strike which was destined for goal but there defenders head got in the way 😂 more and more chances come our way with Jake G having two swipes at it but it wouldn’t go in. Reggie also had a couple of long range strikes and we went in at half time 1-0 up but feeling like it should have been a lot more with the chances we had and not really giving Dinnington much of a sniff with our defence standing firm. As expected Dinnington come out stronger in the second half and put some dangerous balls into our area but Gabe and our defence coped with it brilliantly not letting any real chances threaten us. We then got a hold of the game and scored our second with Gabe assisting Oscar with a great ball up and the goal machine didn’t need asking twice to finish off ⚽️ we increased our advantage with Aidin bringing the ball down brilliantly, playing a great ball over the top to Josh who hit a great strike which there keeper saved but Oscar pressured the keeper to make him palm the ball back out into Josh’s path who’d continued his run to fire home into the roof of the net ⚽️ Dinnington got one back with a great solo run down our left, beat everyone and put it past Gabe to deny us a clean sheet. We sealed the game late on with Jake D playing it to Reggie who slipped it through to Oscar who controlled it and with the outside of his foot bent it into the far corner ⚽️ a fantastic performance from all the lads with us controlling the majority of the game and causing the opposition nightmares with waves of attacks. Defensively we was brilliant and more than earned our place in this Sundays final!

Sundays game was a quarter final clash against a very strong thorncliffe side. It was a game of few chances with both teams cancelling each other out constantly. We took the lead with a brilliantly struck free kick from Louie from 20 yards who bent it over the keeper into the far top corner ⚽️ thorncliffe equalised in the second half with a good goal on there part. They then took the lead with a ball into box that we didn’t clear and put it past Gabe who had no chance. With the minutes ticking away the lads kept trying to find a way back into the game and we drew level after Josh put a great ball into the box that Oscar latched onto and had a strike which thorncliffe cleared off the line but Jake D was there on the rebound to finish and take it to penalties ⚽️ Oscar stepped up first and put it straight into the top corner ⚽️ Gabe then stepped up and pulled off a great save down to his right 🧤Carter stepped up next and confidently struck it to the keepers right leaving him no chance ⚽️ thorncliffe scored the following pen to make it 2-1 to us. Next up was reggie who put it into the bottom right corner and there keeper got his hand to it but couldn’t keep it out ⚽️ thorncliffe scored again 3-2. Josh was next and he couldn’t have placed it any better as it come off the inside of the post and in ⚽️ Thorncliffe scored again 4-3. Last up was Gabe who needed to score to send us through, as calm as you like he walked up and put it into the top right corner to seal our place in the semi final ⚽️ a fantastic performance from the lads yet again who showed unbelievable character to get back into the game and believed in themselves to get the win 👏🏻

Sundays game saw us travel to Barnsley to face north gawber in the first round of the cup. Think the lads had a bit of jet lag in the first half as the energy levels were low and we never got going. We got deservedly punished with north gawber taking the lead early on after they cut us open far too easily. Our only chances of the half come from Reggie from distance and we went into half time lucky that it was only 1. After a few choice words at half time we demanded more from the lads and they delivered. We upped the tempo, got our passing going and the chances started coming our way with Reggie, Carter, Jake D and Oscar all going close. We got the equaliser after Oscar was manhandled in the box and he cooly converted the penalty into the bottom corner ⚽️ both teams entered the last 5 minutes pushing for the win but it all ended all square and went straight to penalties! Oscar stepped up first and smashed it into the top corner ⚽️ Gabe in between the sticks dove right to pull off a great save 🧤 Carter then rifled his pen into the top corner ⚽️ this time Gabe dove left to pull off another fantastic save 🧤 Reggie made it 3 top bins from 3 with a bullet ⚽️ it was all down to Gabe to cement the win and his massive presence put the opposition off and it went off target to get us through to the quarter finals. A game of two halves but the lads showed great character when needed to get back into the game and held there nerve in the big moments 👏🏻
