I'm starting to get back into the swing of things now, after a much-needed extended break! I have been doing a few things while I've been absent...

I'm taking a short break from most work at the moment, but will be doing some nice things in the summer. Here's a link to a walk I'll be leading at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire in July - a great opportunity to go behind the scenes into the non-public areas!

Fungi are starting to pop up!

Beautiful ivy is in flower now, it provides a source of late season nectar that is much appreciated by all sorts of insects.

The plum family is having an amazing year! While carrying out a habitat survey I found and snacked on these little red ones, and noted the location of the sloes for later!

I've been surveying an ancient woodland, and found a huge area of remote sedge (an ancient woodland indicator species) with lots of opposite-leaved golden saxifrage hiding underneath (another AWI).

Believe it or not, this is one of the fun parts of habitat surveys - checking IDs of various mysterious/half-dead/difficult species 😁
