After the disappointing performance of the previous week, the 2โ€™s took the short trip to title challengers Hundall knowing they had to up their game. A new and very green strip with a barren outfield was the prize at the toss which Hutchinson obviously lost, however Edwards chose to give the visitors first dibs.
The returning Overton and Sohail were charged with seeing off the openers which they approached in contrasting styles; Sohail opting to hit the ball out of the parish, Overton not so much. With the 50 rapidly approaching Overton fell for a single and Cornes followed shortly afterwards for an uncharacteristic 5.
Hutchinson then steadied the ship to see off the opening bowlers and Sohail carried on brutally making his way to 55 before top edging one to the covers.
Somerton (33) dragged himself to the crease still carrying part of the injury that had curtailed his fine form for the last 2 weeks. Quickly into his stride his power hitting forced the hosts to push the field back which allowed the score to tick along nicely through the middle overs. However, Twinkletoes decided to go dancing down the track and found himself stumped by the sharp glove work of Lee. Wasim and Hamaad both fell cheaply bringing Raheel to the middle for his obligatory shot of the day, this week being an effortless cover drive all along the ground for 4.
Hutchinson fell in the penultimate over for uncharacteristically chance-less 58 whilst Raheel finished unbeaten on 21 and the total on 221-7.
Par?
Suleman and Hamaad took the new ball keen to make early inroads however, the hosts clearly fancied themselves to chase having won the toss and with the pitch showing very little sign of sideways movement accuracy and fielding were going to be key. Both bowlers hit their stride from the off and an in-out field kept the score under control, but the wickets column remained blank the 14th over when Hamaad found a way through Leeโ€™s defences. Both bowlers kept the pressure on the hosts for their full spell of 9 setting the platform for the change. Rehaan hit the mark from ball 1 and soon had his 1st of the day.
The tight bowling and excellent fielding would soon bring rewards as the home batters tried to get on top of the increasing run rate. 2 more quick wickets to Rehaan including an excellent running catch by Raheel opened up the middle order but Edwards stood firm. And when Gray joined him in the middle the intent was clear to see.
Cornes senior and junior took over bowling duties and when Snr managed to squeeze one through the skippers defence the chance of pinching the W looked better. Gray had other ideas though and kept his side in the hunt to chase down the total. Hutchinson replaced Jnr for the last couple of overs and quickly removed Hanvere bringing the tail to the crease. But was that was the last of the action as the hosts saw out the last couple of overs with ease.
A close and tense game which swung both ways but good to get back to a positive outcome.

๐Ÿ Hathersage 1st XI vs Ambergate 2nd XI | Baulk Lane

Hathersage were on the wrong side of the result at Baulk Lane, falling to a 109-run defeat against Ambergate 2nd XI.

After winning the toss and choosing to field, Hathersage made early breakthroughs, with George Fox (3-55) leading the attack superbly. However, half-centuries from Martin Beedell (54) and Joshua Wright (66), along with a late acceleration, saw Ambergate finish on 257/7 from their 45 overs.

In reply, Hathersage struggled to build lasting partnerships against a disciplined bowling attack. George Fox completed an excellent all-round performance with a well-made 50, while Lalagha Mohammadullah added a quick-fire 29, but regular wickets meant the hosts were eventually dismissed for 148.

A disappointing result, but plenty of character shown throughout, with George Foxโ€™s all-round display the standout for Hathersage.

๐Ÿ Ambergate 2nd XI โ€“ 257/7 (45)
โญ George Fox 3-55 (10)

๐Ÿ Hathersage 1st XI โ€“ 148 all out (32.2)
โญ George Fox 50
