PLAYER OF THE MATCH

For the second consecutive week and after his phenomenal performance with the ball last game, our Player of the Match award goes to Keelan McNally this time with a bat in his hand, following his outstanding unbeaten 66 against Eckington in our defeat on Saturday.

In an innings that needed some impetus, Keelan provided exactly that. From the outset he looked positive, taking the attack to the bowlers and playing with confidence throughout. His aggressive approach helped keep the scoreboard moving and gave our innings the spark it desperately needed. Striking an unbeaten 66 in 55 balls including 7 Fours and 2 big Sixes.

A superb knock that stood out in a difficult day for the side and another well-deserved Player of the Match performance.

MATCH RESULT

Ridgeway endured a difficult afternoon on the road as Eckington claimed a comprehensive ten-wicket victory.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, we found scoring hard work from the outset. Eckington’s two young opening bowlers set the tone with disciplined spells, while the introduction of a talented off-spinner further tightened the screws, making runs difficult to come by throughout the innings.

Opener Gavin Stevens once again provided the backbone of the Ridgeway batting effort. Showing patience and resilience, he anchored the innings and remained unbeaten on 28 before injury unfortunately brought his afternoon to an early end.

With the innings in need of a spark, last week’s star performer Keelan McNally delivered once again. Combining brilliantly with captain Ash Roberts, the pair injected much-needed momentum into the innings with a series of aggressive strokes, excellent timing, and superb running between the wickets.

Keelan was outstanding, finishing unbeaten on a superb 66, while Ash contributed a quickfire 19 before being dismissed. Their partnership helped us recover from a difficult position and post a competitive-looking 140/6 from their 40 overs.

Knowing early wickets would be crucial, we set about our task with intent. However, what followed was a batting masterclass from Eckington’s experienced opening pair.

The home side’s openers looked in exceptional touch throughout the chase and rarely offered us a chance. Displaying excellent shot selection and composure, they put on an absolute clinic, easing their side to victory without the loss of a wicket.

It was a tough day at the office for us. We won’t score 200-plus every week or bowl teams out for 50, and credit must go to Eckington, who were simply better than us in all departments on the day. We battled hard and had our moments, but ultimately it wasn’t to be.

There will always be games like this over the course of a season, and the lads know the importance of sticking together and continuing to work hard. With some big fixtures coming up and the halfway point of the campaign fast approaching, there is plenty of points to play for.
