I may not be the quickest, but I love triathlons. This weekend I did a Sprint (750m swim/ 12 mile bike / 3 mile run). Somehow I’m this occasion the swim was 835m (explains the slower time although my pace was also slower than what I’ve been doing in the pool), 14 miles bike and 3 mile run. I couldn’t get my breathing right and therefore my stroke. The water was too warm for my wetsuit. Then I couldn’t get out of my wetsuit and had a lengthy transition 1. However, I got a PB on my run (knocked 2 mins off last year, according to my watch). And that included having to stretch my calfs at 2 miles. I enjoy them and always enter them hoping something magical will happen with the results but usually the magic is all in how I feel when doing them. And that feeling is happiness.

I’ve been doing a couple of courses over the last 6 months with a Canadian teacher named Susi Hately who has really transformed how I personally move when in practicing yoga and therefore how I teach it too. Out of the blue I get this from her… a book written by her friend, Dr Jagdeep Johal, about neuroscience, and looking at why we get stuck on a state of alert and how to break out of it. Susi’s work has really got me to use my Somatics skills and see even more clearly (reinforcing what I’ve been taught to become a Somatics teacher) that our bodies are tense and sore because we’re subconsciously guarding out unaware of compensating movement patterns and we get stuck in cycles of pain. I’m excited to read this book!

Hat like Fresh Prince! But it keeps the rain off my specs. Ducks galore on this run.
