PLAYER TRIBUTE
Maurice Nicholson .

Most of you will know that sadly Maurice passed away in April at the age of 91.

He captained Dial House No.2 back in the late 90s but played League Snooker well before that. The Wisewood Club closed in 2006 and from there he took the team called Dubi Sports to Malin Bridge Sports Club until in 2009 when the team renamed Hillsborough Dial and moved to Hillsborough Club.

He represented all of the above teams at the League monthly Delegate Meetings and he wasn't afraid to offer an opinion. In fact, he was responsible for instigating sponsorship for the Summer League from the Hillsborough Club. Thankyou Maurice!

In 2015 his son Craig took over the captaincy of the team although Maurice continued to keep a close interest in their performance. In latter years he played only as reserve but still encouraged his sons Craig and Carl to continue playing in the Sheffield League.

No doubt he influenced Craig as he won the overall Player of the Season in 2012 and the Teams K.O. from British Legion in 2024.

A true Sheffielder character and a better gentleman he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts are with the boys Craig and Carl at this sad time

Maurice is pictured with his proud sons at the Teams KO final.
