Because the goal isn’t to make players look good in training.

It’s to help them perform when I’m not there.

Anyone can make a session look good,

But my goal isn’t to impress parents watching from the side or on Instagram.

The goal is to develop the player on the pitch,

I want players to leave my sessions learning the things that give them a huge advantage on match day by seeing more, thinking quicker, understanding the game better and having the tools to solve problems for themselves.

That matters far more for young footballers than how impressive the session looks.

Creativity comes from having more

The more options a player has, the more opportunities they have to find their own solutions

The more solutions they can find, the easier the game becomes.

Creativity starts before the ball even reaches your feet, not by learning more skills.

I don’t expect young players to live by standards that I’m not willing to live by myself.

As a coach, my role goes beyond teaching football. I aim to lead young players, promote learning and make sure they enjoy the process.

The footballer always comes first, but to help them reach their 100%, I aim to keep working towards the ideal coach.

I may never reach that ideal, but knowing what I’m striving towards helps me become a better mentor and educator.
