Sweepstake update

The group stages are now complete, and here is your Round of 32 update!

Is anyone feeling confident yet? 🤑🤑

We’re still looking for 1 or 2 new players to join the team. We’re really looking forward to the start of the season with this great bunch of girls and just need 1 or 2 more players to complete the line-up. Players must currently be in Year 6 or Year 7 at school.

Tonight’s session focused on defensive work, with the girls learning how to close down attackers, slow the game, and prevent dangerous situations developing.

We introduced a couple of new drills which took a bit of getting used to, but the effort and attitude were spot on. With some repetition, you could really see them starting to understand and apply what we were working on.

A big well done to everyone for their hard work tonight, but a special mention goes to Tamzin, who takes this week’s Trainer of the Week award. She listened throughout, showed great focus, and was always eager to learn.

Today we headed over to Brinsworth for their annual football gala. As always, it was a fantastic, well-run event and one we look forward to every year.

We knew going in that it would be a high-level tournament, but the girls put in a brilliant shift from the very start. They managed to pick up some valuable points throughout the day and, although it wasn’t quite enough to see us through to the final stages, it was a great overall performance.

The teamwork on display was excellent, and it was especially good to see the new girls who are trialling with us settle in so well. They integrated quickly, worked hard, and really got stuck in.
Well done to all of the girls — a great effort all round.

Another great training session as we prepare for this weekend’s tournament at Brinsworth. The focus was on defensive strength and strong tackling, and the girls put in a fantastic effort throughout.

This week’s Trainer of the Week was decided using a points system, and a big congratulations goes to Wilko for coming out on top.

To top off what has been a brilliant weekend, we held our presentation evening to celebrate everything the girls have achieved this season. It was a fantastic night, giving us the chance to reflect on the hard work, growth, and team spirit shown throughout the year.

We couldn’t be prouder of every single player. Their dedication, attitude, and support for one another have been outstanding, and it was great to recognise those efforts together. Here are a few photos from a really special evening.

After some questionable planning, we headed into a full-day tournament bright and early at 8am—less than 12 hours after our presentation evening! Despite that, there were no signs of tiredness, and the girls got stuck in from the very start. We were incredibly proud of the effort and performances they put in throughout the day.

The day was split into 2 tournaments, The morning tournament was full of “nearly” moments. We played some very good football, held our own in every match, and were unlucky to concede a couple of late goals that turned games against us.

The afternoon tournament was a completely different story. The girls reset brilliantly and didn’t let the morning affect them at all. We kicked off with a convincing 4–0 win, followed by a hard-fought 1–0 victory. Full of confidence, we then faced Eckington—both teams sitting on two wins. It was a tight, competitive game with chances at both ends, but it finished 0–0.

Going into the final match, we knew it would likely come down to goal difference. We dominated the game and created plenty of chances, eventually securing a 2–0 win. Unfortunately, despite scoring 7 goals and not conceding in the afternoon, Eckington edged top spot on goal difference.

We’re incredibly proud of the girls for securing the runners-up spot—just a little gutted to come so close to winning it! A fantastic effort from everyone, and we can’t wait to go again next weekend.

What a busy weekend we've had, with plenty to share from our Presentation Evening and today's tournament!

I'll be posting updates shortly, but right now I'm sat on the sofa trying my best to stay awake. I can't wait to get back to work for a rest! 😴😂
