Wortley RUFC Women's Rugby

05/10/2026

Yesterday some of our ladies took part in the Inner Warrior Festival hosted by Huddersfield RUFC Women & Girls. Wortley joined forces with Cleethorpes Ladies RUFC and Sandal Warriors Spartans to form a barbarians team gelling from the off.
Some great rugby was played by all involved and with around 60 players taking part it was a fantastic day for women’s rugby!

Two names with strong Wortley connections are chasing a World Cup dream.

Former Wortley age-grade coach Gareth Ramsey and former Wortley U16 captain Sid Ramsey have both been selected in the initial Wales Wheelchair Rugby League squad for the Rugby League World Cup in Australia later this year. An incredible achievement and one that everyone at Wortley RUFC can be proud of. 👏🏉

Unfortunately, the squad has been dealt a major setback after a key shirt sponsor withdrew support at short notice, leaving a significant funding gap. Wales Wheelchair Rugby League has launched its "10,000 x £1 = CYMRU" campaign to help cover the costs of taking the team to Australia and competing on the world stage.

Wheelchair Rugby League is one of the most inclusive sports in the world, with players representing their country while often balancing work, family commitments and the challenges of self-funding elite sport. The campaign aims to help cover travel, accommodation, equipment, insurance and other essential tournament costs.

As a club, we'd love to help spread the word and support Gareth, Sid and the rest of the Wales squad.

If you're able to make a donation, no matter how small, it would be hugely appreciated. If you can't donate, please consider sharing the fundraiser with your friends, family and rugby networks.

Let's help Gareth, Sid and Team Wales get to Australia and represent their country with pride.
