Field(ing) of dreams as Grindleford run out comfortable winners against Millhouses Works
Captain Heather won the toss and elected to bowl first on what turned out to be an overcast evening with a constant threat or rain. Bowling first Grindleford on the whole bowled nicely picking up a total of 11 wickets, with 10 of those requiring fielders with Jemima Letts (2 Catches & 1 Run Out), Bess Gilbert (1 Catch & 1 Run Out), Heather Arnold (3 Catches), Lizzy Latimer (1 Catch) and Jojo Latimer (1 Catch) all contributing to what was an incredible fielding display where the only drop of note from Emma Latimer was a fantastic save turning what was a certain 6 into a 4 which could have been crucial in a tight game. Wickets were spread around with Kaori (2/13), Hilary (1/4), Lizzy (1/13), Bess (1/11), Heather (2/11), Emma Latimer (1/17) and Emma Walker (1/11). Kaori and Heather’s 2 wickets a piece took them ahead of Annabelle who was not available to become the leading wicket takers with 7 wickets each. Whilst Heather’s figures were also a club record. Millhouses finished their 20 overs scoring 104 runs for the loss of 11 wickets.
The excellent bowling and fielding in the 1st innings meant that Grindleford, requiring to pass a net score of 205 to win, started on 155. The now familiar opening pair of Heather and Hilary (9) set the team off to a fast start scoring half the initial deficit in their 4 overs putting on 31 for the loss of 1 wicket, Heather dispatching 3 fours on her way to 18. After a quick start, Millhouses could have been mistaken for thinking that the scoring would slow down, however Emma Walker (5) and Kaori (25) upped the scoring rate, adding another 32 with Kaori smashing 5 boundary 4’s. In fact, the pairs never scored at less than a run a ball, with Jojo (2) and Bess (8) added 26 for the loss of 2 wickets, Emma Latimer (3) and Kirsty (1) adding 24. Kirsty took it upon herself to be a danger to the opposition, first of all hitting a ball into the legside where the highly skilled Millhouses captain stood on the ball, rolling their ankle in the process. Kirsty then caused the more experienced Millhouses fielders to take a tumble with a quick single. In fact
