Duppas head across the border into Berkshire this afternoon, where they’ll be warmly welcomed by Wraysbury Bowls Club on their outdoor, all weather synthetic green.

The Windmills have proved a stubborn side for Duppas to overcome on their home turf, with the visitors still searching for a win in recent meetings. Can that run finally come to an end today?

🔙 LAST TIME WE MET

Our last encounter took place in Shepperton on 16th June 2026, in a nail biting contest that Wraysbury edged by just ONE SHOT!

🎯 Final score: Bishop Duppas 41 – 42 Wraysbury

There was a standout performance from Duppas’ top rink of Pam Mattingley, Mark Kelly and Peter Taylor, who stormed to a convincing 19–7 victory. Unfortunately, the other two rinks couldn’t quite match that success, leaving Wraysbury to take the overall win.

🔥 CAN DUPPAS GET THE JOB DONE IN TW19?

Duppas will certainly be heading into this one full of confidence after a fantastic week of results, including securing the South Middlesex League title and lifting the John Gardener Trophy yesterday!

With momentum on their side, Captain John Randall, fields a strong side to take on the Windmills this afternoon, can the Duppas finally claim that elusive victory in Wraysbury?

One thing’s for sure — they’ll be giving it everything!

JOHN GARDNER SHIELD WINNERS 2026

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS 🥂 to:

👏 PAM MATTINGLEY, ANN BAMBER, PAUL WHITCOMB & ANDY GIBBON

who were crowned 2026 John Gardner Shield (Mixed Fours) South Middlesex Champions after a fantastic performance against Staines, winning 22–7. Staines conceded after 16 ends.

A special mention must also go to CLAIRE COLLINS who played alongside the team through to the semi final. 👏

ANDY GIBBON and CLAIRE COLLINS proudly accepted the League Championship Shield on behalf of the club!

It wasn’t to be for NICK WHITEHOUSE and CLAIRE COLLINS, who were beaten in the final by Ashford BC’s Jade Tsamplakos and Rob Hackwell.

Champions are back in action! 🟪🟨🟪🟨

Following a week long tour of Essex, Duppas returned to Shepperton on Thursday evening with some fantastic news — we have been crowned South Middlesex League Champions for 2026! 🏆

A brilliant achievement to celebrate on the journey home along the A127!

This afternoon, it’s back to business as Duppas welcome Horsell BC to our home green for a friendly fixture. And with two meetings already behind us this season, there’s plenty of history between the sides!!

2026 PREVIOUS MEETINGS

20th June 2026 – Friendly at Horsell

Our first meeting took place at Horsell’s High Street green in Woking, which had recently been installed and still needed to be cut high. The slower conditions didn’t quite suit Duppas, who are more accustomed to their own faster green. Horsell took the honours on the day, winning 66–51.

11th July 2026 – West Surrey League Division 2 & Sapphire Match

Duppas returned to High Street for a men’s West Surrey League Division 2 fixture and the ladies’ Sapphire match. By then, Horsell’s new green had bedded in nicely and played beautifully — despite temperatures soaring well above 30°C on an exceptionally hot summer’s afternoon! ☀️

The Duppas men secured a 2–1 rink victory, taking four points to Horsell’s one. Unfortunately, our ladies were beaten on all three rinks.

🎯 Now it’s time for round three!

Duppas tour of Essex continues and today the team travel along the coast to Westcliff-on-Sea, home of famous Essex County Bowls Club. County are one of the strongest and most decorated bowls clubs in England.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides!

DID YOU KNOW? Established way back in 1906, Essex County BC are celebrating 120 years of bowling this year!

Their roll of honour makes impressive reading!! These include 16 County Shield titles, 8 Secretaries Singles, 7 Benevolent Singles and 4 South Essex Fours victories. They’ve also enjoyed success at Eastern Counties and at major national level.

OPPOSITION KEY PLAYERS: Of note is Ed Morris — an England international and one of the country’s top bowlers. Ed has won the Bowls England National Two Wood Singles, National Singles and British Isles Singles, as well as the British Isles Triples for England. He was also named Bowls England Male Bowler of the Year in 2023! An impressive résumé! 🏆

🌿 A huge thank you to our Green Team! 🌿

Our Green Team, made up almost entirely of unpaid volunteers, work incredibly hard throughout the year to keep our bowling green and grounds looking as good as possible. Their dedication doesn’t stop when the bowling season ends — the hard work continues all year round!

We believe we have one of the finest bowling surfaces in South Middlesex, and that’s thanks to the commitment, time and effort of our fantastic team. Of course, that’s just our opinion… but it’s one that our opponents often seem to agree with! 😉

We’re also proud that members from neighbouring clubs regularly choose us as their neutral green of choice.

So, a massive THANK YOU to everyone who gives up their time and puts in the hard work behind the scenes. Your efforts are truly appreciated, and you help make our club what it is! 🟨🟪🟨🟪 👏

*** ESSEX BOWLS TOUR UPDATE ***

Our cohort of tourists continue to enjoy their weeks tour of Essex County.

On Tuesday, Duppas played a match against Thorpe Bay Bowls Club, based in Thorpe Bay Gardens, Southend on Sea. The green is on the coast and gives players and spectators stunning sea views.

The conditions suited Duppas as they ran out 91-107 winners before enjoying the hosts hospitality back in the clubhouse.
