π IMPORTANT UPDATE π
We would like to clarify some inaccurate information that has recently been circulated regarding Space Kid Records and The Activity Den.
For the avoidance of doubt, Space Kid Records is not being "booted out" of the premises.
The agreement between The Activity Den and Space Kid Records was always intended to be a collaborative arrangement. As a director of the CIC, Nigel was provided with the use of space in return for a contribution towards the running costs, while The Activity Den had the opportunity to deliver sessions to the community through Space Kid Records. There was never any commitment or guarantee that it would continue beyond the three years of the lease, as any future decision would depend on a range of factors, including funding, the needs of The Activity Den, and the future direction of both organisations.
Earlier this year, Heather and Kim made the decision that they would not be looking to renew the lease come September. Nigel was informed of this decision in January, providing approximately 7β8 months' notice and allowing significant time to make alternative arrangements should Space Kid Records wish to continue operating from another location.
Following this decision, it was agreed that a joint communication would be issued to all families to provide clear and accurate information. The purpose of this communication was to explain:
- Which sessions at The Activity Den would continue after September.
- How The Activity Den would operate going forward.
- The relationship between The Activity Den and Space Kid Records.
For clarity and transparency, we have attached the joint statement that was agreed by all parties at the time. We hope this helps provide context and demonstrates the information that had been intended to be shared with our families.
For further clarity, all management meetings involving Heather, Kim and Nigel were formally minuted. Nigel resigned from the management team in February in order to focus his time and efforts on securing a new permanent home for Space Kid Records. The minutes accurately record the discussions and decisions that were made and can be made available upon request to anyone seeking further clarification, subject to any appropriate confidentiality considerations.
We fully support the GoFundMe campaign established to assist Space Kid Records in securing new premises, should additional funding be required. We sincerely wish Nigel and everyone involved with Space Kid Records every success in finding a new home and continuing the valuable work they do.
However, we do feel it is important to correct any statements that suggest Space Kid Records has been unexpectedly forced to leave the premises or that inadequate notice was provided. Those suggestions are not consistent with the facts. The decision was made in January that the existing arrangement would come to an end in September, and advance notice was provided accordingly.
Our intention in making this statement is not to criticise any individual or organisation, nor to create unnecessary conflict. We simply believe our families and wider community are entitled to accurate information so they can understand the circumstances and timeline for themselves. We remain committed to being open, transparent and respectful throughout this process.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, understanding and kindness towards everyone involved during this period of transition.
