How did The Two Vegans become Vegan?

Michelle, “I became a vegetarian at the age of 18 because I didn't want to harm animals. A few years later I became vegan for health reasons and very soon realised how animals raised for dairy and eggs can suffer even more than those raised for meat and vowed to stay vegan forever. I've been a vegan for over 25 years and have been actively working in the vegan movement for over 7 of those. I have 4 children aged between 7 and 17 who are life vegans. I have always campaigned for people to become vegan because of animal welfare, but now also feel it is so important for environmental reasons too. If we are going to save the habitat of all the lovely animals in the Amazon as well as other parts of the world we need to all think very carefully about what we eat.”

Kyah, “I became vegetarian at the age of 14 after talking to someone on an anti-vivisection stall in Walsall High Street. I lived in big cities for most of my adult life and it wasn’t until I moved to Shrewsbury, a big farming area, that I started to awaken to the horrors of the dairy industry. I watched a video where a calf was torn away from his mother and it shocked me so much that I went vegan overnight, and so did my husband. My biggest regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. After moving to Shropshire, I started to volunteer with The Shropshire Veggies and Vegans, where I met Michelle. I have suffered badly with OCD and anxiety for ten years and Michelle has really encouraged and supported me to get involved. I ran a few small vegan fairs called Vegelicious in Oakengates and helped Michelle with larger ones in Shrewsbury and now we are running our own fairs! At times I find organising events really stressful but I try to push myself because I want to spread the vegan message, to show how we can all live a healthy life without abusing animals.”
