Our first friendly of the season, 10 players making their rugby debut, bright sunshine… and what an incredible day it was!☀️

The final score was 80–5 to Stafford Women, but there’s plenty to be proud of. We know what we need to work on, we know what we do well, and today showed the fight, determination and teamwork this fantastic group has🔥

There was grit, determination, plenty of learning, some seriously impressive moments, hot sunshine, a brilliant opposition AND a fan-bloody-tastic day of rugby!☀️🏉

A huge congratulations to our debutants, you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves. What a way to start your rugby journey💙💛

🏉SO THAT’S WHERE SARAH HAS BEEN…🙃

We thought she just didn’t fancy pre-season training😂 Turns out she’s been slighttttly busy.

Sarah has been taking on Op ENDURANCE this year to raise money for the Veterans’ Orthopaedic Service and Veterans’ Centre at RJAH which includes an 8-day self-sufficient Arctic expedition, the UK Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours, and plenty more endurance events along the way💪

She’s already raised nearly £2,500, with one final challenge still to come…👀

Oh, and did we mention she’s currently doing all this with a broken wrist?🤦‍♀️😂

This one’s extra exciting for us because we’ll have a real mix pulling on the Shrewsbury shirt, with familiar faces returning for another season, players making their return to rugby… and some of our brand-new women playing their first ever game of rugby! 🥹🏉

FROM THE VERY BEGINNING

🏉 MEET THE COACHES | SIMON WAIT

From rebuilding our girls section to helping establish Shrewsbury Women, Simon has been part of the journey from the very beginning💙💛

With around 10 years of coaching at Shrewsbury, Simon has played a huge part in the development of the female game at the club.

Following Covid, he helped get Shrewsbury Girls back up and running, supporting players who have since gone on to represent England age-grade sides, Premiership clubs and teams across National 1 and National 2.

Alongside Craig ‘Fudge’ Jones, Simon then helped establish Shrewsbury Women and became one of our original coaches.

Our journey started with Inner Warrior, building a new women’s squad before taking the step into league rugby. We finished third in our first league season before going one better the following year, finishing unbeaten and lifting the league title🏆🔥

Now, with promotion to NC2 and another big season ahead, Simon continues to be a huge part of the journey he helped start. Here’s to the next chapter💙💛
