How do you get everyone coming to your open season event? Show them the food they are going to have before they arrive....

Thank you Liz for such a fantastic spread of food.

A great turnout of people, car park full and having to park on the road...

Hopefully more pics to follow, always forget the players on court. 🫤

Great turn out..... Now to enjoy a great season of tennis🎾

Cound tennis club put old used balls to good use.....

Have you ever wondered what happens to those tennis balls in the recycling bin near the hard courts?

The club has recently donated it's used tennis balls to a local primary school for their pupils to use as part of their sporting curriculum - including tennis lessons! Miss Jessica Williams from the Shrewsbury Cathedral Catholic Primary School and Nursery (part of the The Blessed Edward Campion Federation) recently came along to a Saturday afternoon club session and received over 200 balls that will now be used in the school’s tennis lessons. We were delighted to see our used balls go to help local children and will hopefully inspire the next generation of tennis players.

Below is a thank you shared by the School’s Executive Headteacher;

On behalf of our school I would like to thank you for the kind donations of tennis ball. These will be well used by the children and really support our PE curriculum.

Thanks,

Graeme Hawes

Flooded again.....
When you join Cound tennis club you might think it's just for the tennis, well it's not.

What an amazing club, it's times like these you realise what a great friendly, social and communal club it is as well. One word to ask for help and so many members came to the rescue to get our fantastic shale courts back to normal again.

Even at times like this we made it a fun event with so much food and drink and a great camaraderie in getting the job done.

Looking into the future we are installing flood defensives this winter to avoid this happening again, then we can leave our social gatherings to the tennis and other events.

Lastly a massive thank you to everyone involved helping getting the courts back to normal again and covered ready for the opening in the spring.

So now let's go and enjoy our lovely hard courts that are playing so well after resurfacing last year.

Thank you.

Australian Open Fun event...
What a great day, so much fun. Every player played at least 28 games about 2-3 sets. The courts played fantastically and drained really well after all the rain we had.

Weather was very kind to us as we enjoyed our new terrace which is almost finished. A much better social area to watch the tennis and enjoy a burger or two.

We played an American tennis format which meant we had one ladies winner and one men's winner. As it happened there was a tie for the ladies so both were worthy winners of a new tube of balls.

The winners were for the ladies Elaine Sherwin and Lucy Pulford, and the men's winner Jim Deen who also received a new tube of balls. Well done to you all.

Thank you to all the lovely ladies who came along and supported the charity and club fundraiser yesterday. We were blessed with fabulous weather and all enjoyed a great mornings tennis and delicious lunch!

Thank you to all those who contributed and to Cheryl and Hilary for being the domestic team! A big thank you to Jill for organising us all and to Katrina & Min for matting the courts afterwards. Katrina retained her first place!

We raised £600 to be portioned between the club flood defences and the Midland Air Ambulance.

Lastly a very big thank you to Patrick Smitheman at Harwoods for his sponsorship.

Club Championships...

After a very wet first attempt of playing the finals, it was abandoned and the table tennis proved very useful providing alternative entertainment. We still had the traditional BBQ and a few drinks, cakes crisps etc, which added to a great social afternoon. Not being defeated the finals took place the following weekend.

What a great day of tennis we had (the sun came out as well). Very close fought matches all day and a lot of tired bodies....

Well played to everyone who took part in these Club Championships 2024. Nearly 40 games were played throughout the last few months, this included the Plate Championships which produced some brilliant matches.

Here are some pictures of the day and of our triumphant winners in all categories.
