Many congratulations to the Bowls England team on a very successful Commonwealth Games. Especially to Sam Tolchard and Katherine Rednall who took the men’s and women’s singles gold medals. Let’s hope this boosts the profile of our sport after the bad news that the BBC are withdrawing from coverage of the World Bowls championship at Potters.

CLUB TOUR 2026.
A party of 15 Club members recently enjoyed a five day coach trip, visiting and playing matches against several indoor bowling clubs. Our hotel was in Lincoln and each day we visited a different club : Grantham
Sleaford
Lincoln
Boston
Nottingham (on our way home).
Our thanks go to the club members for welcoming us into their club and making our tour possible. 👍
Prior to bowling at Lincoln IBC, our coach driver dropped us off in the city centre and we had a few hours spare time for sightseeing.
All the Clubs were very welcoming and friendly and everyone enjoyed their bowling sessions – some more than others! All the greens were much faster than our own and we did not do too well at mastering them, although some of us did manage to win our individual matches.
Lincoln IBC was by far the largest club with eight rinks, a bright blue carpet and over 1,000 members. Boston IBC was the smallest with approx. 280 members (not many more than our own)
Lincoln IBC were very generous and the President of the Club, Roger Clark, presented SIBC with a crystal trophy to commemorate our visit which is now in the SIBC’s trophy cabinet. We also received individual trophies to each member of the winning team.
Back at the hotel, our evening meal was at 7.30pm and after that several of us enjoyed a game, or two, or more, of Mexican Dominoes (courtesy of Phil who supplied the game). None of us had ever played this before but we thoroughly enjoyed each evening.
To sum up, everyone had a really good time, enjoyed each others’ company and bowling at different venues. Everyone agreed they would like to do it again next year to a different area.
Margaret.
Like migratory birds, many of our Shrewsbury indoor bowlers feel the pull of the hump outdoors at this time of year, as the crown green season begins😉. Yet, the indoor bowls continues through the spring and summer with a continued programme of bowls.
We wish all our seasonal bowlers a successful and healthy crown green season. 🤞See you all again in the autumn when the colder days and darker nights draw you back to the warmth and light of the indoor world. 👍
See you soon. Stay well. ❤️
