Over the past few days, there have been several heartbreaking open water tragedies across the UK involving young people and families. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.
As a business centred around water-based activities, stories like these hit hard and are a stark reminder that open water can be unpredictable, even for confident swimmers.
Over the last few days especially, we’ve sadly seen an increasing number of people ignoring safety rules and guidance around the lake. We completely understand that rules can sometimes feel restrictive, particularly when people are here to relax and have fun, but they are in place for a reason.
We know not everyone agrees with decisions such as mandatory buoyancy aids for certain activities, and we appreciate that some people feel it changes their experience. However, these measures are based on safety, risk assessments, and the responsibility we carry as an open water venue.
Our responsibility will always be to put safety first. The policies we have in place are there to protect our visitors, our staff, and ultimately to help ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.
We are constantly reviewing, adapting, and improving what we do, and while we may not always get everything perfect, every decision is made with care, responsibility, and the realities of operating a safe open water venue in mind.
