🏏Match Report- Tuesday 30th April.

Yesterday, Skelmersdale Women’s hardball super 8s team opened up their season away to Hightown St Mary’s. The first game after promotion meant that the team were unsure of the standard of the league, and were apprehensive going into the opening game.
Losing the toss and batting first- Skelmersdale opened up with a very strong pairing from Nat Martlew and Sammy Pitts- putting on 40 runs between them in 4 overs. Paula Johnson and Jemma Conor followed this trend, putting 15 runs on in their pairing. Captain Abbie Wright and Kiki W, who was playing her first ever senior game of cricket, put an incredible 40 runs on the board, and finally Ellie Parkinson and Kirstie Hunter finished up, putting 30 runs on the board to total 125 runs.
The Skelmersdale ladies then took to the field. Abbie Wright and Nat Martlew took opened the bowling, bowling tight and keeping the run rate down.
Debutant Kiki W then came on to bowl, taking her first senior wicket (caught and bowled) to change the pace of the game. Tight overs from Kirstie Hunter and Ellie Parkinson also assisted in the keeping the run rate down. But the wickets really changed the game. 1 wicket from Kiki W, 1 for Ellie Parkinson and 5 for Nat Martlew meant Hightown lost a total of 35 runs- and leaving them with a final score of 40- and giving Skelmersdale the win.
Captains player of the match is Kiki W. Scoring runs, bowling overs and taking wickets in her first senior match is incredible. She held her own, and cemented her place in the side. Well done Kiki!

A great start to the season for Skelmersdale women’s section- hopefully the rest of the season plays out the same!🏏🩵

🏏 Match Report- Sunday 28th April

Today our merged T20 side with Winstanley Park took to the field for their first T20 game- against strong opponents Liverpool CC. A wet couple of months meant a slow ground, but a dry day to get the first game of cricket of the season in.
Captain Abbie Wright won the toss- electing to bat first. Nat Holden and Meg opened up the new season- with a strong partnership to start off the innings. Meg was the star of the batting side, staying in for 20 overs and scoring a strong 51 not out. With some struggling batting from the other end, Skelmersdale ended up putting on a worrying 96 runs.
Skelmersdale then took to the field, and with an injured Kayleigh Thompson not taking her usual spot as wicket keeper- the outcome looked bleak. The girls however pushed every ball- keeping their spirits high and their voices loud consistently.
The breakthrough came from Anna, who broke Liverpools opening partnership and changed the course of the game. 6 more wickets followed from here, 1 from Ellie Parkinson, and 5 from Nat Martlew in 12 balls, marking a peculiar, but first 5 wicket haul (5-2).
In the end, Liverpool ended up 79-7 off their 20 overs, giving Skelmersdale the win. The girls really kept the intensity high, and did themselves and the club proud.

Captains player is joint this week due to a near impossible decision between Meg and Nat Martlew. Both made vital contributions to the game and played really well. The team can only go up from here🏏🩵

Unfortunately, tonights women’s softball training is cancelled. The heavy rainfall over the last couple of days means the ground is too wet and it just isn’t safe!

Hopefully we will see you all next week!🤞🏼🩷
