Flying from Saltby airfield with Buckminster Gliding Club we aim to get all those interested in flying and aviation airborne and gaining the experience of powerless flight. With various expeditions planned across the year, gliding is a great way to meet fellow students from Loughborough but also other universities across the country. Training is reasonably priced with the chance to become a solo glider pilot in just 3-6 months, but that's only the start, once a solo pilot you can progress your new found aviation skills further and train for aerobatics and cross country flying. If you want to come flying with us this year then the memberships are now live on our LSU page, search LSUGC or follow the link below for more details and the store to buy the membership!

If your unsure about glidng come and visit us this Sunday (the 27th) for the freshers fair and come along to our intro talks on the 1st and 6th of October, more details about the time and place to follow and the details will of course be posted here!

Meet the LSUGC committee for this year!

If your interested in gliding and learning to fly (no prior experience is required) come and meet us at this years freshers activity fair on Sunday the 27th and we can talk through what we do as a society.

You can find us with the British Gliding Association simulator in the Students Union, next to the rugby courts with one of the gliders we fly with regularly and our stand in the main hall!

Were excited to see all our new prospective members for this year so see you then!

Summer training week 2026

STW26 was a great sucess with 1 first solo and 2 re-solos!

Along with this we had many soaring flights, in particular press and publicity officer Peter (with the help of instructor Luca) completed a 200k cross country flight along side many local soaring flights from many of our members!

Aircraft and Equitment officer Ed began his aerobatics journey completing his first solo observed aeros flight!

After a few months getting work done the Pw5 is back flying!

We had great pizza and handed out our awards!

Ed for winning the highest achiever and the CFIs award
Sam for the best flight
Ben for winning the keenest freshers
Rob for winning the good egg award
Billy for winning the Wootton award
Sam and Lily for winning the leggings cup

Alongside this we gave an honorable mention to instructor Tim who has been an integral part of LSUGCs success, being at every training week for over a year and sending many of our members solo!

Congratulations to Chair Dom for completing His 50k and part 1 of his 100k diploma today in the club's Astir

He set off from Saltby before trekking over to Gainsborough and then onto the high heights of Darlton before making His was back home to Saltby

For His first cross country the flight was a great success as He made it back home and I'm sure had a pleasurable time in the Astir,

Onto the second part of the 100k diploma!
