Three reasons to go for an evening walk!
I just love getting out for a walk in the evening for so many reasons. It leaves me feeling grounded, calm and at one with myself and the world and nature. Here are just three benefits of a short evening walk….
• to be able to gaze into the distance which will help you to come into your parasympathetic (calm) nervous system
• to get the benefits of the evening light (red light) which helps your body with the circadian rhythm - the evening light helps your body to release the hormone melatonin in order to help you get a good nights sleep
• to get that all important movement which helps lubricate the joints, to move and hydrate the fascial system
If you’ve not already been doing it, give it a go and let me know in the comments how it makes you feel!
Enjoy! ☺️

Seems too simple?…..
This basic exercise of rotating through the ankle and then thought the knee and hip is so simple but so good!!!
Mobilising your joints through rotation helps to lubricate the joints which encourages more range of movement in them.
Range of movement in the ankle is vital, especially as we age to help with movement and stability.
The connection between the feet and the pelvic floor and the whole fascial chain is so important and this simple exercise starts to lubricate the fascial system through this simple rotational movement.
Making sure we have full range of movement and mobilising the hip is also important for a number of reasons:
• easing restrictions in the hips eases restriction in the low back
• releasing the hips also releases into the pelvis and pelvic floor which means the pelvic floor can work more as it should - it can be elastic and reactive
Save the reel and give it a go to see what you think.
Simple but good! 😊

My Father - Benjamin Luxon….
Not a usual Pilates post but on this wonderful summer solstice which is also Father’s Day, I wanted to share this recording from 1979 of my dad.
My father was such a remarkable man…. The most phenomenal singer, musician, actor, artist, woodcutter, teacher, sportsman….. the list goes on. He was interested in just about everything and gave the most amazing application and energy to everything he did and to everyone he encountered.
I’m so grateful to my father, he always supported me in everything I did in every way that he could. He was never judgemental of my choices (apart from the odd romantic choice in my past….! 😬) and was always ready to support me on my lifetime ventures.
As a show jumper he supported me wholeheartedly although it was something he knew nothing about.
As a singer of course he was my teacher, my support and guide along with my mother Sheila Amit.
As a mother, he has supported my choices every step of the way and been there both for me and my family, always interested in our journeys, choices and developments.
When I decided to retrain to teach Pilates so I could be more available for my children growing up and satisfy my fascination with movement and the human body - he helped me through the training and showed such a fascination and interest. He never ceased wanting to hear about all that I learn and practice.
How lucky I am to have had him as a father - I’m so grateful - missing him every day. ❤️
If you enjoyed this recording, please do look him up and listen to more - he really was one of the best singers of the world.
Want to work on some shoulder stability??
The front rowing series on the Reformer is just one example of some fantastic exercises that work on scapular stability as well as mobility.
We can really see how you’re having to work both the front line and the back line of the body to control the movement with the carriage. How we’re having to control spinal flexion and extension with the added weight of the springs.
I just love all the rowing series on the Reformer. As with all our Pilates work especially on the apparatus, it really is a full body work out and mind body connection.
Want to come and work on your shoulder stability and mobility?
I offer private, duo and studio sessions on all the Apparatus customised for your body and your needs.
Tuesdays 12.45 and 1.45pm
Thursdays 12 .30 and 1:30 pm
