Did you know that over 62% of women experience incontinence issues (UI) within the UK…..?

That is the number recorded by the NHS and that is only the women who have reported it so the real number could be much higher….

✨Hypopressives can help with:

Incontinence
Diastais Recti
pelvic floor issues
Back pain
Posture

And so much more so that you can live the way you want to!

I can’t tell you how much I am constantly impressed with the results that are gained from just a short time of regular Hypoprepssives practice each day.

As a peri-menopausal woman, I myself have had my own challenges with stress incontinence as my hormones have changed and my body is getting older.

For me, along with my Pilates practice and regular waking and movement, It’s been in the last 6 months since practicing my Hypopressives for just 5 or 10 minutes a day that I’ve really noticed a difference.  I no longer experience  any leakage on coughing or sneezing – it just doesn’t happen any more!  Also, no more getting up several times a night to pee…. Yippee!

Hypopressives is a very gentle breathing technique which incorporates fascial tensioning and stretching.  By changing intra abdominal pressure we create a fascial lift through the pelvic floor which helps to balance out all the internal organs so that they can function as they should.

🌟I’m running a new 8 week course of Hypopressives classes starting next Wednesday 2nd September in Barnoldswick.

I also offer private Hypopressives sessions both in person and online.

How important are the feet for the function of the rest of the body?

The foot has 26 bones and 33 joints. That allows for an awful lot of movement!

The foot is designed to navigate different terrain and the way we use our feet has a huge impact further up the kinetic chain.

What does this mean? It means that when you activate the foot, especially when walking and during movement it will help to activate further up the body through the legs into the pelvis, the glutes which turn will help the upper body to move well.

Joseph Pilates himself saw the importance of footwork and even designed apparatus specifically for the feet; the foot corrector and the toe gizmo.

When working on the reformer, Tower, Cadillac or Wunda chair, footwork is essential for that connection into the rest of the body.

This footwork also starts on the mat with some basic exercises and then adding in resistance with bands or using balls for movement and release.

If you’d like to find out more and start to feel that connection from your feet into the rest of the body book a session using the link in my bio.

Happy walking!😊

Nothing like a good reset.

What an amazing couple of weeks in Cornwall.

My dad was Cornish, and I’ve been coming to my granny’s home and this part of the world since I was born. It always feels like coming home.

This trip was a time for me to reset, recharge and come back to myself.

For me, that means healthy movement and getting outside — lots of walking, climbing, swimming, sea air and being in nature. Barefoot whenever possible, obviously!

Camping brings the added bonus of plenty of squatting and getting up and down from the ground! (Great for those lower limb joints and pelvic health!).

What could be better than two weeks of healthy movement in the outdoors with the Cornish light, sea air and coastal walks to recharge. I feel energised and ready to go.

Now, I can’t wait to bring that energy back to my clients and get moving together. ☺️

Some simple tips for better Pelvic Health!

I focus a lot on pelvic health within my Pilates classes. The pelvic diaphragm (pelvic floor) needs to react with the breathing diaphragm. It is a reactive set of muscles, not designed to only be tightened and strengthened but they also need release. The muscles need to be able to expand and contract, they need to be elastic in order to be reactive and strong.

We focus a lot on the breath in our Pilates classes and ensure good functional breathing for the diaphragm and pelvic floor. We focus on release and engagement and a whole body approach.

Hypopressives is a different and very exciting technique with amazing results! Originally developed by a postnatal gynaecologist, it offers remarkable results for helping with pelvic floor issues, incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. I have new classes starting in September. I also offer private and duo Hypopressives sessions.

Yum!!

Massaging kale, 🥬 or massaging dry rice or similar in a bowl for the exercise are fantastic ways to improve your grip strength, your bone health and help with arthritis.

Using the hands in this way causes the muscles of the forearms to pull on the bones of the wrists and hands which will strengthen them.

Not only yhat, you get lovely tender Lale and your skin gets some improvement from the olive oil in the kale too!

What’s not to love!!

❤️
