We’re opening our doors, by appointment, on Saturday 26 September for fittings and to see the full McNair range. Shirts, jackets and gilets in merino, corduroy, moleskin and canvas. Try things on, feel the cloth and get properly measured for your next McNair garment.

And with any shirt, jacket or gilet purchase on the day, breakfast or lunch is on us at the wonderful Handmade Bakery, just along the canal.

A fitting, a walk along the canal, something very good from the bakery. That’s a pretty good Saturday.

Autumn has arrived. Cooler mornings, brisker evenings. And we're disproportionately happy for the first proper excuse for a good layer.

This is the season we make a lot of our clothes for. We make shirts, jackets and gilets in natural fabrics that are warm, comfortable and made to measure.

Natural fabrics, warm layers and a bit of water-resistant PlasmaDry™ treatment when the rain inevitably turns up.

Made in Slaithwaite, Yorkshire. Built for autumn, and the many autumns to come.

Our lead time for made-to-measure is currently 4-6 weeks. So if you are wanting a shirt for when the weather really makes itself known, it's a good idea to order sooner rather than later.

One of the lovely things about making clothes for people all over the world is watching the seasons change through our orders.

Right now, we’re sending midweight shirts and jackets north, while orders from Australia and New Zealand are calling for the heavyweight stuff. The same McNair wardrobe, just at opposite ends of the globe.

We love seeing a shirt made in Slaithwaite, Yorkshire, making its way to Colorado, Colombia, Morzine, Australia and New Zealand.

We’re heading to Chatsworth Fair, set in the spectacular 1,000-acre parkland surrounding Chatsworth House in the heart of the Peak District. It’s three days of Grand Ring entertainment, cookery masterclasses, food, shopping and all manner of things to have a go at.

We’ll be there with the full McNair collection of shirts, jackets and gilets. Come and feel the fabrics, try things on, see what’s new and, most importantly, get properly fitted for your next McNair. We’ll have the new Chadwick Jacket, Mill Gilet and Lightweight Work Jacket as well as other new styles not yet available online.

We love to see you wearing your McNair Shirts and catching up on all your adventures. If you’ve been meaning to come and see what we make, this is a very good excuse.

There are two kinds of people: those who understand gilets, and those who haven’t needed both a warm torso and free arms at the same time.

The gilet is a strange and brilliant thing. Not quite a jacket, more useful than a waistcoat. Good over a shirt, under a jacket, in the workshop, on the hill, at the pub, or during that awkward bit of weather between “quite nice” and “quite rubbish”.

We make gilets in merino and moleskin, depending on whether the day calls for woolly warmth or workwear toughness. All have at least 3 external pockets as well as 2 large internal lower pockets.

McNair gilets are made for warmth, movement and practicality, without the bulk or sleeve-based complications.

Canvas is a tightly woven cotton cloth, prized for its strength, structure and ability to take years of wear without complaint.

Our PlasmaDry™ canvas family now includes the Men’s Lightweight Canvas Work Jacket, the heavier weight Canvas Work Jacket, the Canvas Work Shirt and the Savannah Jacket.

The heavyweight Work Jacket is robust, tactile and quietly handsome, with oversized patch pockets and a shorter, boxier fit that leaves room to move, and room to layer.

The Lightweight Work Jacket is cut from half-Panama cotton canvas: breathable, textured and tough enough for years of wear, without the heft of the heavyweight version. The Savannah Jacket uses the same cloth and is our take on a classic safari jacket.

All finished with PlasmaDry™ for remarkable water and stain repellency.

We call it the Coast Jacket, but really it’s our summer jacket, our travel jacket.

The Women’s PlasmaDry™ Half Panama Coast Jacket is made for warmer days and versatile packing.

There’s a nod to the classic safari jacket, with two oversized lower pockets for everything you need, plus things you picked up along the way: receipts, sunglasses, a pebble with a hole in it.

The fit is relaxed so there's room for a jumper when the chill turns up without an invite.

It is made from midweight half Panama cotton, a fabric that is breathable, soft, naturally resistant to creasing and water-resistant.

We’re back at the Great Yorkshire Show with the full McNair line-up of shirts, jackets and gilets.

Come and try things on, feel the fabrics, see the new Chadwick Jacket, Mill Gilet and Lightweight Work Jacket, and most importantly, get fitted properly.

The Great Yorkshire Show has been doing things properly since 1838, and we approve. Can't wait to see you all there.
