A recent project in London highlighted how important surface performance is when it comes to meeting the Football Association Register standards for 3G pitches.

Our client's 3G surface had fallen short of the required criteria due to compaction with the infill layer. This was affecting playability with the ball rolling too quickly across the pitch and producing a higher that normal bounce.

To resolve this, we carried out our specialist deep decompaction treatment, targeting the compacted infill to restore softness , loosen infill and improve overall surface performance.

This resulted in a more consistent playing surface, improved shock absorption and ball roll and bounce back in line with FA requirements.

In Loving Memory of Tim Phipps

We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news that Tim Phipps, Divisional Manager, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away of natural causes, on Monday 29th December 2025.

Tim was an integral part of Smith Construction for 35 years and a truly valued member of our team. He brought knowledge and experience to so many aspects of our business and will be remembered for his constant willingness to help others, his kindness and his famously bad jokes that never failed to bring a smile to our faces.

As a team, we are struggling to come to terms with the loss of such a much loved colleague, family member and trusted friend. This has been a profound shock to us all and we kindly ask for your understanding and patience during this unprecedented time.

Above all else, Tim was deeply committed to his family and always spoke of them with such pride and love. He was a devoted father and grandfather and also a loving son, brother and uncle. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and loved ones and we ask that their privacy is respected as they navigate this difficult period.
