🔄 Box Breath / ‘Sama Vritti’ = ‘Equal Breathing’ This balanced breath technique helps to create a state of equilibrium in the body and mind, promoting calmness and reducing stress. In anxiety sufferers, the breath becomes shallow and quick particularly when experiencing panic attacks. The Box Breath is an excellent tool that may be used to bring the breath back under control in these instances. It can centre the focus and ground the individual, while slowing the breathing and therefore heart rate, bringing the individual back to baseline and helping them to move through the panic attack. Sama Vritti can enhance focus, improve lung capacity, and induce a state of relaxation. It is particularly beneficial for those seeking to manage anxiety and improve sleep quality. To practice, start with a count of 3 or 4 for each inhale and exhale, and gradually increase the count as you become more comfortable. Integrate Sama Vritti into your daily practice to cultivate inner peace and balance and use it as a tool to bring you back down to earth during times of heightened anxiety. I would suggest 4-5 rounds of practice, observing how it steadies your mind and soothes your body. Otherwise, continue until you feel that your breathing has returned to a normal state. 🧘 This is the fourth in a series of 6 videos on Pranayama.
