😢 Confirmed! No Gold Cup for Sovereignty

SOVEREIGNTY SETBACK — GOLD CUP PARTICIPATION IN DOUBT

Reigning U.S. Horse of the Year Sovereignty has suffered a setback after developing an abscess in a hind foot, forcing him to miss his scheduled weekend workout.

Trainer Bill Mott confirmed that the issue has interrupted Sovereignty’s preparation, placing his participation in the upcoming Gold Cup in doubt.

The situation will now depend on how quickly the foot responds to treatment and whether Sovereignty can return to training in time.

Godolphin will be represented by two Charlie Appleby-trained runners on Irish Champions Festival day at Leopardstown.

⭐ QUEST FOR STARS contests the G1 Golden Fleece Stakes over nine furlongs. The unbeaten juvenile has won all three starts, including the Listed Stonehenge Stakes, and now steps onto the Group 1 stage.

👑 ARABIAN CROWN lines up in the G3 Kilternan Stakes over a mile and a half. The experienced son of Dubawi arrives after an encouraging second behind Rebel’s Romance at Newmarket and should appreciate returning to this distance.

Both will be partnered by James Doyle as Team Godolphin pursues more important international success.

🏆 ITEM meets CONSTITUTION RIVER and ALMAQAM

Three outstanding performers collide in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday, 12 September.

ITEM arrives as the highest-rated runner following his dramatic victory in the Juddmonte International at York. The progressive Frankel c**t was briefly denied a clear passage before producing a powerful late finish to catch ALMAQAM near the line.

ALMAQAM returns seeking revenge after being beaten by only a head at York. Consistent at the highest level and proven over this distance, he remains a major threat—although faster ground could present a different examination.

CONSTITUTION RIVER finished four lengths behind the pair at York, but that result may not reveal his full ability. The French Derby winner raced too freely and close to a strong pace, ending an unbeaten three-year-old campaign. If he settles better at Leopardstown, he could reverse the form.

Three elite horses. One major rematch. The Irish Champion Stakes promises to be the defining contest of the Leopardstown card.

🔥 TEMPTED set for KA YING RISING rematch

Godolphin star TEMPTED is being prepared for another clash with Hong Kong sprint champion KA YING RISING in The Everest at Royal Randwick on 17 October 2026.

Tempted finished second behind Ka Ying Rising last year, but she has returned in outstanding form, producing a brilliant late acceleration to win the G2 Concorde Stakes over 1,000 metres in 55.60 seconds.

Trainer Ciaron Maher confirmed her programme:

📅 3 October — G2 Premiere Stakes, 1,200m
📅 17 October — The Everest, 1,200m

Ka Ying Rising has issued his own powerful warning, lowering his Sha Tin 1,200-metre course record by 0.99 seconds while winning his seasonal return by 7¾ lengths.

Everything now points towards a fascinating rematch: the world sprint champion against the Godolphin mare who came closest to defeating him last year.

🏇 The Day WRECK IT RONNIE Stole The Show

At Goodwood, a race expected to be a formality became one of the most extraordinary stories in British racing history.

Najidi Storm arrived with a winning debut, the prestigious Juddmonte colours and a pedigree headed by the legendary Frankel. Only two rivals stood between him and another victory.

But Wreck It Ronnie had other ideas.

The three-year-old, co-owned by Manchester City star Phil Foden and named after his son Ronnie, had finished well behind the winners in his first two starts. On Tuesday, however, he produced a completely different performance.

Under Kieren Fox, Wreck It Ronnie took the lead after the opening furlong and established a clear advantage approaching the final furlong. Najidi Storm tried to close the gap, but the leader kept finding enough to hold him off by 1½ lengths.

A first career victory. A famous name in the winner's enclosure. And a result that entered the British racing history books.

The winner was trained by Charlie Pike, while Najidi Storm's defeat became the most extreme starting-price upset recorded in British racing history.

For Phil Foden, it was a memorable first victory as a racehorse owner. For Wreck It Ronnie, it was the afternoon he announced himself to the racing world.

Sometimes, the most compelling racing stories are written by the horse nobody expected to win.
