While the results didn’t all go our way, the scoreboards only tell part of the story. Every player showed incredible determination, teamwork, and passion throughout the day, and the progress being made across the club is amazing to see.

A special congratulations to Isla, who played in her first tournament, and Ted, who also made his competitive debut, showing great ball handling, passing and teamwork throughout the day. πŸ€πŸ‘

A huge well done to Bobby for scoring his first basket, Jack for his outstanding defence, Ruby-Rose for being a fantastic role model and mentor to our newer players, Corey for stepping up with confidence on both offence and defence, Alice for some excellent shooting and dribbling, and Chloe who had a brilliant day scoring from all around the key.

Moments like these show exactly what the Bears Family is all aboutβ€”supporting each other, developing confidence, building friendships, and celebrating every achievement, big or small. 🐻❀️

A massive thank you to Ali and Tom for all their hard work behind the scenes organising, coaching and making these opportunities possible for our players.

Finally, thank you to all the parents, carers, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and supporters who cheered on our players throughout the day. Your support means everything.

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for making it possible for our Bears players and families to enjoy an unforgettable team-building weekend at Calvert Trust in the beautiful Lake District.

The weekend was about so much more than just activities. It gave our Bears family the opportunity to spend quality time together, build new friendships, strengthen existing ones, and learn from each other’s experiences. Our players and families all have different disabilities and challenges, and it was inspiring to see everyone sharing how they have adapted and found their own ways to overcome obstacles in everyday life.

From conquering fears to stepping outside comfort zones, every single person pushed themselves throughout the weekend. Whether it was trying a new activity, supporting a teammate, or simply believing in themselves, the courage and determination shown by everyone was incredible to see.

Weekends like this remind us that wheelchair basketball is about much more than sport. It’s about friendship, confidence, inclusion, and being part of something special.

Thank you again to The National Lottery Community Fund for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime and for supporting opportunities that bring our Bears family closer together.

This weekend is all about coming together off the court β€” spending quality time getting to know, understand, and support one another even more as a family. Stronger connections off the court help build stronger performances on it, and we can’t wait for this amazing experience together.

πŸ»πŸ€ Playoff Result πŸ€πŸ»

Bears 41 – 57 Lothian Phoenix

A tough end to the playoff weekend for the Bears against a strong Lothian Phoenix side. The game was closely contested throughout the first half, with the Bears battling hard and taking a narrow lead into halftime.

Despite a huge effort from the team, foul trouble and fatigue in the second half allowed Phoenix to pull away late in the game. The squad never stopped fighting and showed incredible determination right until the final whistle.

πŸ—£οΈ Coach’s Summary:
β€œI’m incredibly proud of the effort the team put in all weekend. We competed hard against a very good Lothian side and there were so many positives to take from the game. This young team continues to grow every time we step on court, and with more experience we’ll only get stronger.”

⭐ MVPs: Mikey Mercer & Kirsty Van de Poll

A huge thank you to all the parents, family, friends, and supporters who helped and cheered us on throughout the weekend ❀️🐻

πŸ»πŸ€ Semi Final Result & One More Battle to Go πŸ€πŸ»

Bears 31 – 66 Mohawks

Today saw the Bears take on a very strong Mohawks side in the playoff semi finals. Despite the result, the team continued to battle from start to finish, showing determination, resilience, and true Bears spirit throughout the game.

Every player gave everything they had on court and never stopped competing against an experienced opponent. While it wasn’t the outcome we hoped for, there are still plenty of positives to take away from the performance and valuable lessons to learn moving forward.

πŸ—£οΈ Coach’s Summary:
β€œToday was an incredibly tough game against a very strong and well-organised Mohawks team. From the opening whistle, the intensity was high, but I’m proud of the way our players kept competing and never gave up. Every single player worked hard, supported each other, and gave their absolute best throughout the game.

Although the scoreline didn’t go our way, there are valuable lessons we can take from this experience as a team. Credit must go to the Mohawks for their performance today. We’ll regroup, learn from this game, and come back stronger tomorrow.”

Tomorrow, the Bears return to court for one final game of the playoff weekend as we face Lothian in the battle for 3rd place πŸ₯‰πŸ”₯

The squad is ready to reset, refocus, and leave everything on the court one more time. No matter what happens, we are incredibly proud of this team and everything they’ve achieved to reach finals weekend.

Let’s finish strong, Bears 🐻❀️
