Does two hours of strength training a week reduce the risk of dying early? 20/08/2026

Yesterday I saw an article on the BBC website that reports once again that lifting weights is massively beneficial for your health and longevity!

In short strength training for 90-120 minutes per week...

reduces the risk of premature death by 13%

in particular reduces the risk of premature death due to cardiovascular disease by 19% and due to neurological conditions (for example dementia) by 27%!

What the article doesn't touch on which I think is equally important is the quality of life strength training gives you- more mobility, better joint health, less pain, more able to participate in activities of daily life, ability to continue to participate in physical pursuits later in life!

Many people don't strength train enough because they don't have the motivation, find it boring or (more often) are worried about doing it wrong and hurting themselves.

Group style personal training (that we do at BlueZone fitness) is the perfect antidote to this- by training with other people it is much more enjoyable and always having a coach on hand ensures that your training is always safe and effective.

(Not to mention group personal training is far more cost-effective... at a fraction of the cost of 1-1 training!)

Most people don't fail at healthy eating because they lack willpower.

They fail because life gets busy.

Food prep changes everything.

🥘 Slow cooker
🍲 Batch cook
📦 Gusto or meal delivery
🥕 Prep your basics
🚨 Have a healthy emergency meal

Preparation beats willpower every single time.
