📝Match Report: South Molton Reserves 0-1 Langtree Lions 1sts📝

Short and sweet match report this week as honestly aside from not being able to hit the net not too much to tell.

We started slow and although we largely dominated possession we didn't do anything with it. Our football was reckless and we looked nervous, unlike us as we normally try to play football and use the ball much better.

This was the way the game stayed for the majority and then Langtree took advantage of an empty net and took the lead 0-1.

For the last 18 Langtree were reduced to 10 after a straight red for pulling our player back when he was in on goal. For the last 7 or so they were down to 9 after another sending off.

Despite this we just couldn't fund our rythmn and honestly, if you gave us another week we still wouldn't have found the back of the net. Really disappointing to lose our unbeaten run, especially in that manner but everyone has an off day and yesterday was ours.

We look to next weekend and a chance to put things right. We wish Langtree the best for their season. No MOTM this week as everyone was off of their game.

We made the trip up to Braunton FC for yet another away game this season. By far the biggest game of our season so far, the boys knew they had to be at it today! 🫡

A cagey opening 15 saw few chances for either team. We kept knocking at the door and eventually got the breakthrough from a set piece. Adam Jerrett, sponsored by Shapland & Searle Traditional Butchers South Molton, floated one up to Ben Wells, sponsored by The Jube, who delicately glanced it across to Ben Shapland, sponsored by Adaptive Vehicle Conversions Ltd, with our centre half expertly finishing into the bottom corner, 0-1. Our quality began to show as the half went on, with Max Symns, sponsored by Simmons Fruit Sales, having a very solid first 45. We soon enough made it two when Jerrett played a Beckham-esque ball perfectly into the path of Sam Chapman, sponsored by Bar 27, who clinically finished past the keeper, 0-2, HT. 🎯

Second half started with the home team being awarded a penalty which they converted to make it 1-2. Some top saves from Loui White, sponsored by South Molton Scaffolding Ltd, kept us on top and we ran away with it in the end. Our third goal came from a penalty of our own, Chapman stepped up and saw his strike brilliantly saved by their keeper, but tapped in the rebound to make it 1-3. 👌

An impressive cameo from Blessed Mukama, sponsored by Freds Charcoal Grill, was topped off with a wonderful assist. The young winger went by four Braunton defenders before slotting in Isaac Wells, sponsored by Limited Moon Computers, who rounded the keeper and tapped in, 1-4. 🤩

Some top performances from White in goal, the entire midfield who showed those extra gears this week, but MOTM has to go to Dan Anjos, sponsored by Woodward Smith Architects. Our Portuguese man absolutely pocketed his left winger for 80 minutes before he was dragged off without having a sniff. 🔐

Molton’s toughest test of the season by far, passed with flying colours. Thank you to all massive away following, the support doesn’t go unoticed. Thanks to Braunton FC for the hospitality and good luck for the rest of the season! 👏

Devon County Cup action was next up for the lads as they played at home for the first time this season. After three wins from three in the league, the boys have started brilliantly this season, a cup run, anybody? 👀

The game got off to a fairly even start as Holsworthy looked to write the wrongs of their opening day league defeat to us. We eventually got into our stride and went 1-0 up as Adam Jerrett, sponsored by Shapland & Searle Traditional Butchers South Molton, placed one beautifully into the bottom corner from just outside the box. The second and third goals came within a couple of minutes of each other as Joe Southcott, sponsored by Plumbase Barnstaple, properly announced himself back in the black and white stripes with two brilliant finishes from close range. Nothing special by any means but we saw ourselves head in 3-0 up at the break. 🙏

There were some words of encouragement from the management team at half time as it was clear we had more gears to go up. Top of the priority list however was a clean sheet, with three clean sheets in four games this season the aim, having only conceded once so far all season. ⚙️

A much quieter second half, but some good chances for Joe Southcott, Adam Jerrett, with two absolute corkers rattling the woodwork, Sam Chapman, sponsored by Bar 27 and Finn Holland, sponsored by MH Plastering & Renovations. Leo Werner, sponsored by DW Bodyworks , got in on the act and made it 4-0 with a tidy finish into the bottom corner. The back four held firm and we saw the game out well picking up our third clean sheet in just four games, overall a professional display. ✅

Thank you to everyone that came out up to watch, great to see so many up at the pitch. Into the hat for the next round of the cup, with full focus back on the league now. Shoutout to our Reserves for coming to support us and the ladies in the tea hut for all their help! 🖤
