We have completed our shoreline clean up today as part of our entry to the Sea Angling Classic. We did this as a family at Porchester Castle ahead of the Crabbing competition. It was good to see lots of people getting involved to keep the environment clean.

What a day out yesterday. Rods and Ribbons Species hunt for Cancer Research UK. I was joined by Jon, Joe and Toby ( C fishing ) for this brilliant charity event.
After loading the boat with a smorgasbord of bait and a small tackle shops worth of rod and reels. We left Sparkes Marina and headed out to the first mark. The weather was overcast with a gentle breeze. 9am the first baits were in the water all of us fishing with a verity of 3 hook rigs baited with various tasty treats for the fish. My choice was a 3 hook flapper with Cox & Rawle sratching match hooks baited with a rag worm on the bottom hook and squid strips on the top 2 hooks, i was hoping for a Wrass or Bream.
I got a bite, pouting and a fish on the scorecard. Then its was Bream for everyone. The bites we're coming quickly with lots of Bream amd the odd Dogfish, but we all had fish on the scorecard, we moved to our second mark only a couple of miles further south. More Bream, Doggies, a Wrass and small Conger for Joe to add to the scorecard.
High water was fast approaching and it was time to head to our chosen Tope mark. One the way we spotted some birds working and we a drift to see what was there. Toby and Joe bothe snagging a Mackerel and a bonus Bass for Joe. It was looking like it was going to be a good day.
Then the wind picked up as did the sea, It was forecast to pick up a bit but not until the late afternoon and it was only 1115am. Our plan was out the window with our chosen marks. It would of been very uncomfortable to say the least in the quickly building sea.
We headed west to sheltere behind the Island. We picked a mark. More doggies and congers. With a couple of hours left to the end of the fishing we headed back east to Chichester Harbour to see if you could find something we hadn't already caught.
With the wind now at F5 gusting F6 from the SW the bar at the entrance to the harbour was like a washing machine. It has to be the worst seas I have ever had the boat in but handled it well, (not too sure about the crew though).
Just over an hour left and the rods were back in the water, hoping for a Hound. More doggies, lots of w**d and bonus Huss for Toby.
Time was up and we headed back into Sparkes Marina. Totals were 6 species for Joe, 4 for me and Toby and 2 for Jon.
After cleaning the boat we headed to the Square Rigger for a drink and to watch the final result come in.
I finished 8th out of 36 anglers. Toby was 10th and bagged best Jr. Top rod for the day was Joe finishing 2nd and one piped to the top spot on the times the fish were caught.

Today I hosted my first coaching session, I was joined by 5 young and 2 adults from Eastleigh Rugby Football Club.
We started off the session looking at a rod and reel, how it works and and how to set it up.
I showed them how to tie a blood knot and how to make a pully rig, the rigs looked great everyone did a fantastic job.
We looked at some different baits and how to present them, squid, ragworm, mackerel and hard back crabs were the choices of bait today.
Casting was next. there were a few stray casts, but its was a good effort by everyone and they were improving with ever attempt.
Then it was time to put it all together with a few hours fishing armed with the pully rig that they had made a some Cox & Rawle 3 hook clipped down rigs.
The weather was perfect today warm sunshine with a light breeze, making the day even more enjoyable.
Sadly no fish were caught ( sometimes thats fishing), but the feedback was that everyone had fun and learned something.
I would just like to say thanks to everyone the came today and a Huge thanks to Mark and Stewart form Cox and Rawle and to Graham Warren Jnr at Shorecast angling supplies for there support in helping me put this event together and getting new and young people on the shore having a go at fishing.
Now to start planning the next event.

Living the Bream: Sparkes Marina 🎣
What a day out on the water last Saturday! We headed out from Sparks Marina joined by Toby Challinor for the highly anticipated "Living the Bream" competition. The vibes were high, the coffee was hot, and the target was clear: the bait-stealing Sea Bream.
The conditions were sunny with light easterly winds but the local Bream population certainly came out to play. It was a proper masterclass in light-tackle fishing, with plenty of rattles and bent rods throughout the fleet.
While many fish were measured, the quality at the top was tight. It took patience and the right rig to find the bigger specimens hiding in the mix.
Biggest Fish of the Day: A cracking 41cm Sea Bream. 2nd and 3rd came in at 40cm the tie break being who caught their's earliest in the day The winning fish was caught by Ben Hodgson-Kerry
Best Lady: Gemma Robins with another bream of 40cm
Best Junior: Was my Harry, who took home the trophy with a solid 35cm fish.
Highlights from the Day
Tactics: We fished 2 marks on Boulder Bank with 3 hook flapper rigs with small sized Cox & Rawle Chinu hooks and strips of squid for bait.
Sparks Marina provided the perfect backdrop for the event. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of the marina before the "all-start" and the shared stories over a drink afterwards.
A massive thank you to the organisers and everyone who made "Living the Bream" such a success. Whether you went home with a trophy or just a salt-sprayed face and a few stories, it was a day to remember.
Well done again to Harry and the other winners! See you all at the next one! 🐟✨
