Member Spotlight: Chris Long

Chris started his health & fitness journey in the middle of June. The rate of progress Chris achieved was incredible - losing an immense 18 kg of pure body fat in just under 4 months and still dropping 😱.

How?

Chris fully immersed himself into his objective, working closely with out nutritionist Emma and completing his gym program 3 x per week without fail for the whole duration.

Chris also ensured he was still active on his days outside of structured gym sessions.

He managed to stay consistent despite having a new born baby during the process and running his own business.

Member Spotlight: Charlotte May

Despite always being fairly active, more so at the weekends 💃🥂😬 - Charlotte has struggled for over a decade to reduce her body fat since having children, trying multiple modes of exercise but to no avail.

Although she has been coming to Pinnacle for years, she never really had the sustained bout of consistency and dedication required to make substantial progress until recently.

As so many can relate to - it’s not easy to get into this mindset and can become extremely disheartening when you ‘fall off the wagon’ or when challenging life events occur.

However, despite the above - Charlotte found a way to put her own health and fitness to the forefront and the results followed losing an incredible 10 kg of body fat!

Charlotte implemented the following changes:

📌Followed a structured program 3 x per week.

📌Booked in regular appointments with our amazing nutritionist Emma.

📌Heavily reduced alcohol consumption equalling improved energy and mental clarity.

📌Religiously achieves over 10,000 steps per day - even on structured exercise days.

Although there is still lots to work on, Charlotte’s lifestyle is now set up with health and longevity in mind to ensure life lasting progress.

Are you turning up to the gym and just making it up as you go along? 🙁

Maybe you’re following a session via a social media influencer? 🤮

Some might say “something is better than nothing”.

But is that ‘something’ going to help you progress?

Initially - maybe but unlikely.

Purposeful exercise is progressive, structured and specific to the individual.

If you have a health & fitness goal and have longevity in mind then none of the above will cut it...

...You’ll just end up hopping from one thing to the next and wonder why nothing is happening.

Here’s our in-house physiotherapist contemplating what to do in the gym today, which got me thinking about something I come across on a regular basis:

So you think you know what you’re doing in the gym 🤔?

Common scenario at a gym⬇️

Prospective member enters the gym looking to join. After a brief conversation they claim they have been exercising for years and know what they’re doing 🤨.

The prospective member respectfully declines a comprehensive induction or trial session to get them started and signs up to a standard gym membership and ‘go it alone’👌🏻.

The following day they are seen in the gym; meandering around, almost bewildered and pondering what to do 🤯.

After much deliberation, eventually they are finally seen using a piece of equipment - albeit the wrong way up 😬. This is then swiftly followed by using some dumbbells performing an unknown movement that can only be described as ‘lying dumbbell rapid arm flap’ 🥴.

The appropriate way to address this is to observe and give the person a chance before intervening with some advice. A good trainer should and always be helpful, even to those not enrolled with one of their training options.

Even after the appropriate advice is provided, there are some people who will just ignore anyway and continue doing things incorrectly, achieve nothing and simply put themselves at risk of injury.

The key take-home with this common scenario is that it doesn’t matter if you attend the gym and don’t know what you’re doing - just ask. Even when you think you know what you’re doing just ask and make sure!

A gym should be a judgement free zone open for all, and just like anything with a remotely technical aspect - seek advice from the experts who do it for a living instead of winging it in the hope something will happen.

Boot Camp

- Who is it for?

We have a diverse membership, ranging from first time trainees all the way to elite athletes, so your age, gender or current fitness status is irrelevant!

All that matters is that you are driven to become a healthier, fitter version of yourself and want to surround yourself in an environment with like-minded people, all with a common goal!

- What will it involve?

Unlike a typical class and most boot camps, there will be a clear structure and progression from week to week.

During the first week you will have access to our InBody scanner to have your stats measured so you can assess your starting point. You will then re-measure at the end of the 6 week course to assess your progress.

If every aspect of the course is followed, you will be amazed at what you can achieve in this short time frame!

- Where & when will it be?

All sessions will take place in our 5000 sq.ft
facility at Hamble Point Marina, Southampton.

All we require is that each person is able to attend and dedicate just 3 hours a week (out of a possible 168 hours!) for the whole 6 week course.

The boot camp will start as soon as you sign up as an individual, with a partner or as a group, with the 3 weekly sessions being arranged as follows:

As some of you might be aware we are planning a charity golf day this summer. Aiming to do it in July, on a Friday at Boundary Lake.

The day will consist of bacon rolls and coffee before heading to the course to play a full 18. After the golf, we will attend a meal, give out prizes and do a raffle.

Member Spotlight: Ian Schenkel

Ian is just 5 months in since starting his health and fitness journey, losing an incredible 27 kg and he’s nowhere near finished yet!

Although Ian initially started on his own for a month making some great progress - he quickly understood that to make sustainable progress he would need some professional guidance.

That’s when Ian contacted Pinnacle Performance.

We created a progressive, structured program, training 3 x per week using our semi-private personal training option. Ian also opted for regular check-ins with our nutritionist utilising her meal plan service.

On top of the above, Ian also added in extra physical activity outside of his 3 sessions to ensure he was active every day of the week ensuring he could still be social and flexible at the weekends.

The results speak volumes - Ian started out at 125 kg body weight and is currently weighing in at 98 kg (and still dropping)!

This goes to show - it doesn’t matter what point you start at; get active and stay active and the results will follow.

Superb work Ian, keep it going 👏🏼.

One of the key aspects of Pinnacle Performance is program design. Every member who subscribes to one of our membership options has a program designed specifically for their goals, physical traits and level of conditioning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the major worries and ultimately myths with some prospective members is the belief that our facility is designed exclusively for athletes and individuals boasting a high level of fitness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While it is true that we can proudly say that we have trained sportspersons who have made it to the “pinnacle” of their sport...😉, we also have many individuals who had previously never stepped foot in a gym, and worked with people dealing or overcoming health and rehabilitative issues.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ultimately what we believe helps sets us apart from other trainers and coaches is that our sessions are;

- Not off the cuff
- Not simply the workout that we have performed ourselves that day
- 100% personalised in a semi-private training format and therefore not to be confused with group training.

Member Spotlight: Adie Gunn

Adie has been a long term member with us, initially joining back in 2015 in preparation for the 2015-16 ‘Clipper Round The World Race’.

Adie’s objective was to become more robust and develop his all round fitness to counter the physical stressors associated with what has been described as one of the “biggest challenges of the natural world”.

Adie made significant progress in a short period setting him up perfectly the feat his was about to endure.

After many months, 40,000 nautical miles, the race was finished. Adie’s crew for ‘LMAX Exchange’ even won the event overall out of 12 international’s crews altogether!

Fast track almost 7 years - Adie has been a member even since and still progressing despite approaching 57 years old!

Although Adie has been active most of his life, most notably playing football well into his 40’s - the gym wasn’t really a feature and approached us all those years ago with numerous niggles and ‘ailments’.

Through Adie making health & fitness a life-long investment; following a clear structure with week-in week-out consistency he has drastically reduced, reversed and prevented those ‘ailments’ and is showing no sign of slowing down.

An absolute legend - great work Adie, long may it continue!
